Los Alamos National Laboratory Postdoctoral Research Associate in Uncertainty Quantification Methods for Multiphysics Problems in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The T-5 Applied Mathematics and Plasma Physics Group in Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate opening for a creative, resourceful, and highly motivated post-doctoral research associate. The successful candidate will develop cutting-edge methods and software for uncertainty quantification in the numerical solution of high-dimensional partial differential equation systems. The fundamental research will involve development of efficient methods for (1) computational solution for predicting the propagation of statistical uncertainty in partial differential equation systems; and (2) development of computationally efficient methods for representation of high-dimensional stochastic systems, using, e.g., low rank decompositions. The methods will be applied to the modeling and control of multi-physics systems across scales and/or under extreme regimes. The successful candidate will be expected to work in an interdisciplinary team environment and interact with scientists working in numerical methods, applied mathematics, data science, machine learning, and experimental design in different organizations of the Laboratory.
