What You Will Do

As a Learning Specialist 1, you'll become an integral member of the Institutional Support Services team, Driving customer and training support. Your dynamic engagement involves collaborating with others to ensure that training programs not only meet but exceed customer needs, regulatory imperatives, contractual obligations, and the mission agenda.

As a Learning Specialist 1, you will:

  • Analyze training needs: Use data and organizational insights to assess training gaps and requirements.

  • Design and develop programs: Collaborate with subject matter experts to create training materials that align with customer needs, regulatory requirements, and the Laboratory's mission.

  • Evaluate program effectiveness: Measure and report on the success of training programs, ensuring continuous improvement through regular evaluations.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders: Work with customers and stakeholders to ensure all training programs are compliant with applicable standards to effectively meet stakeholder needs.

  • Maintain training quality: Contribute to the development and refinement of training and maintain up-to-date documentation.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Possesses knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) orders, standards, and Laboratory policies and procedures as they pertain to training.

  • Develops an understanding of the Laboratory's learning management system (UTrain), the related information data systems (i.e., Oracle), and the policies and procedures related to these systems.

  • Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications

  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others. Ability to interact professionally with all types of personnel, including external interfaces and management.

  • Ability to research and identify requirements as they pertain to organizational or regulatory needs and requirements.

  • Ability to prioritize and orchestrate effective, efficient, and dedicated working pathways in a dynamic environment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other common software tools.

  • Basic knowledge of learning theory and performance-based training techniques.

  • Develops knowledge of the general document control and record management processes.

Education/Experience: An associate's degree and 2 years of related experience are required for this position. An equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation may be considered.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) orders and standards pertaining to training.

  • Knowledge of Laboratory policies and procedures pertaining to training.

  • Understanding of the Laboratory's learning management system (UTrain).

  • Understanding of the ADDIE processes.

  • Knowledge of document control processes and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize project management skills and techniques across a wide array of deliverables.

Work Environment:

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
