Los Alamos National Laboratory Information and Technology Deputy Division Leader (IT Manager 5) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Information and Technology Division is looking for a versatile leader to collaborate with the current leadership team in further transforming our organization, providing exceptional skills and experience to enhance the services we provide to our customers with the goal of becoming best in class making for a great place of employment.

The I&T Division provides IT operational support to the broader Laboratory environment. As a Super Division reporting to the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Business Management (ALDBUS), it is strengthened by five key areas: Cyber Security, Network Infrastructure Services, Application and Data Services, Innovative Customer Experiences, and Program Strategy and Execution. Each area functions as a distinct division but is unified under a single I&T mindset and includes multiple operational reporting lines to ensure workflow alignment with the Laboratory's overall mission.

In this role, you will assist in developing and executing the division's vision and strategic plans, manage organizational aspects, and ensure a safe workplace. You will understand and support the LANL mission by providing essential technology and collaborating with various stakeholders to align priorities and resource allocation. Additionally, you will enhance operations, develop I&T Technical Roadmaps, and provide technical direction for service improvements, balancing productivity and compliance.

Minimum Job Requirements:

IT Operations and Strategy

  • Proven expertise in collaborating with IT leadership and business customers to deliver effective solutions, set organizational objectives, interpret company policies, and establish and execute operational goals in a large, diverse organization

  • Proven experience in improving an organization's service delivery through operational standardization and formality to enhance end-user experience and create efficiencies for evolving technology.

  • Proven experience leading in one or more of the following areas: IT infrastructure, IT project management, IT records management, or IT service delivery

Leadership

  • Proven experience managing cross-functional IT teams and leading organizational change through strategic planning and tactical operations in a large IT organization.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external constituents.

Strategic Collabora ti on

  • Experience in fostering effective relationships with IT and functional customer organizations, communicating complex information to diverse stakeholders, and influencing and motivating others while maintaining positive relationships in sensitive situations.

Business Management and Development

  • Proven business management skills, including budget administration, scheduling, performance reporting, and using data to drive change and measure success, with experience in delivering innovative business solutions within an IT organization.

Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with cyber security related technologies and practices. Experience supporting and managing a classified computing environment.

  • 10 years of IT Operational Experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with audits.

  • Demonstrated experience working with LANL's OCIO and Los Alamos Field Office.

  • Previous experience in maturing an organization's service delivery capability through standardization and formality of operations in order to maximize the end-user experience and create efficiencies to allow for constantly evolving technology.

  • Active Q clearance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-A/@Aimages/file) for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
