Los Alamos National Laboratory Generative Modeling for Physical Applications Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Come join the best and brightest minds in the world at one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The work we do at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) matters to our country and the world.

The Information Sciences Group (CCS-3) in the Computer, Computational and Statistical Sciences Division at LANL is recruiting a highly motivated post-doctoral research associate. The successful candidate will develop cutting-edge methods in generative modeling and apply them to physical systems, with an emphasis on imposing specific physical constraints. The fundamental research will involve development of efficient generative methods for (1) multiphase fluid simulations as implemented in Lattice Boltzmann methods, (2) Direct Numerical Simulation of Rayleigh-Taylor flow and oceanography models, and (3) molecular graphs modeling nanoparticles. This position is part of a larger research program that focuses on developing machine-learning methods for learning physical systems. The successful candidate will be expected to work in an interdisciplinary team environment and interact with scientists working in data science, statistical physics, machine learning, fluid dynamics, earth sciences, and computational chemistry, in different organizations of the Laboratory (CCS-3: Information Sciences Group; CCS-2: Computational Physics and Methods; EES-16: Energy and Natural Resource Security; T-1: Physics and Chemistry of Materials).
