The Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist reports to the Custodial & Grounds Supervisor. Schedule varies and is flexible.  This position is classified as a Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist 1 under the State of Washington Class Specification. This position is temporary part-time not to exceed 1,050 hours in a consecutive 12-month period. Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

In  this role you will have the opportunity to: 

• Seeds, mows, irrigates, sweeps, fertilizes, top dresses, edges and maintains lawns
• Plants, transplants, trims, and waters plants, trees, flowers and shrubs
• Uses a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hand edger's, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding forks, hoes, and pruning shears 
• Other duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid driver's license
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Experienced in maintenance / custodial field

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience or training involving grounds maintenance, gardening, plant care, cultivation, and landscape installation 

Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist Physical Requirements include: * *Seldom = 1 -- 10% of the time             Occasionally = 11 -- 33% of the time Frequently = 34 -- 66% of the time  * *Occasionally 11-33%

• Loading and unloading vehicle to transport grounds maintenance supplies (seasonal)

Frequently 34-66%

• Pushing the custodial cart approx. 40 lbs fully loaded
• Bending over
• Bending over picking up and moving debris
• Picking up mats
• Emptying trash and lawn debris
• Use a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hand edger's, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding forks, hoes, pruning shears and pesticide sprayers
• Grounds keeping: mowing the grass, weed whacking, pulling weeds, hedge trimming
