Purpose

Responsible for commercial and multi-family energy audit projects to include incentive, rebate and tax credit maximization. Tasks include: energy- focused site audit, energy modeling in support of building energy improvement, utility data analysis and report composition.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on difficult assignments and possible solutions. Work is completed using standard engineering techniques and design principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients for client contact made during the course of the work.

  • Work collaboratively within team and broader organization to achieve project

Do the Work

  • Gather building design information.

  • Develop understanding of existing building performance.

  • Support high-performance building operation by delivering and documenting energy saving strategies.

  • Perform simulation analysis using a variety of software tools for evaluating building system replacement options.

  • Work with building owner to ensure building improvement recommendations meet owner’s operational needs.

  • Select appropriate analysis software and methodology to fit the project needs most efficiently.

  • Assess potential for renewable energy opportunities based on building energy needs.

  • Prepare analysis, calculations and reports for ASHRAE Standard 211 compliance for Level 1, 2 or 3 audits.

  • Manage client communications.

  • Facilitate/host energy-related project meetings.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and utility bill data.

  • Provide guidance to maintenance staff as to the appropriate energy efficient designs to be implemented in various projects.

  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks.

  • Research and evaluate software, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, apply knowledge of engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, building science, physics, or similar technical degree with knowledge of heat-transfer physics is preferred.

  • Two plus years (2+) years of experience in building energy analysis required. Four or more (4+) years of experience in building energy audits is preferred.

  • Experience in existing building retrofit construction, building energy management or building maintenance is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of a Department of Energy-approved 8,760-hour building energy simulation package such as eQuest, EnergyPlus/OpenStudio, TraneTrace, or IES Virtual Environment is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with additional simulation software programs such as Ecotect, RadTherm, or PVWatts is preferred.

  • Experience in evaluating state-of-the-art sustainable design technologies for commercial construction that might include: natural ventilation, mixed-mode ventilation, chilled beams, radiant ceiling, displacement ventilation, etc. Experience in designing these technologies preferred.

  • Building energy assessment professional (BEAP) certification preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of building energy codes and standards such as ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 211 and IECC preferred.

  • Ability to travel in state or out of state for site visits.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment with substantial building site visits which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

  • Mobility around an office

  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  • Partly outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.

  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.

  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.

  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $65,000 - $85,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
