MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:

To assist in the delivery of the UK Property business plan, by effective and appropriate underwriting, and Coverholder / Binder management. This will include working closely with and supporting delegated underwriting, audit and conduct risk department requirements, whilst enabling the team to meet commercial business objectives. Take ownership & accountability for Coverholders and binders, ensuring performance meets all business metrics; financial and operational.

To create good customer outcomes throughout the insurance lifecycle (i.e. from initial product design, due diligence and data gathering, audit and reporting, through to end-customer claims satisfaction).

It is expected that this individual will underwrite new and renewal binders and handle referral business in accordance with an agreed underwriting authority, and that they develop their knowledge and understanding of this business to support the Unit Head and the Deputy.

It is essential that the candidate should have the ability to work well independently and as part of a team, establish and maintain strong beneficial working relationships with Brokers, Coverholders and Axis colleagues. They should be a highly motivated individual and be able to manage their time well.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a focal point for Coverholder referrals and action changes to Binding Authority Agreements as necessary following appropriate sign-off.

  • Liaise with Brokers and Coverholdersin relation to new and existing business and growth opportunities and build new Broker/Coverholder relationships.

  • Underwrite new and renewal business with the guidance of Senior Underwriters

  • Underwrite such classes of business as outlined by the underwriting authority to achieve targets set out in the business plan, in accordance with agency policy on underwriting standards and controls.

  • Maintain Coverholder relationships and engage with Conduct Risk and Compliance.

  • Arrange and conduct regular Coverholderreview meetings throughout the year.

  • Ensure communication of underwriting product, audit or conduct risk issues arising from conduct risk MI or other business interactions to Unit Head or the Deputy.

  • Use formal reporting mechanisms to promptly notify the relevant parties of any perceived new risks or failures of existing control measures.

  • At all times consider the effect of any actions taken on the customers of Axis with the intention of improving experience. As required, provide accurate, complete and appropriate datain accordance with the Axis Data Policy, as part of their role and responsibility at all times.

  • Achieve agreed training programmes as applicable, including Lloyds briefings, market seminars, CII, etc.

  • Monitoring regulatory, market and agency bulletins and circulars.

  • Ensure understanding of risk decisions, selection and underwriting process and reviewing the policies written to ensure underwriting standards are maintained.

  • Entering data entry of risks underwritten on underwriting systems and spreadsheets.

  • Maintenance of all files and records for binders

  • Is responsible for effectively managing administrative functions with other members of the team to promote a corporate culture which pays due regard to the interests of Customers and treats them fairly at all times.

  • Collate all relevant information required for any internal/external audits, meetings or reviews.

  • Co-ordinate and streamline the business unit’s delegated authority process and procedure.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of delegated underwriting policy and procedure

  • Knowledge of FCA, PRA and/or Lloyds compliance and procedures

  • Microsoft Office proficient:- Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel; plus also Riskwrite, IRIS, Swordfish and Desktop

  • Influencing, negotiating, listening and questioning skills

  • Ability to analyse numerical and raw data and present results in a clear and concise manner as appropriate to the audience

OTHER DESIRED SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS:
