Assistant Underwriter, Global Markets Portfolios
Position Description
The role of Assistant Underwriter, Global Markets Portfolios entails supporting the underwriting operation for AXIS Capital’s Global Markets Portfolios unit. This role will be a key contributor and supporter to the annual performance and strategic success of the unit, assisting in the development, evaluation and servicing of new and renewal business.
AXIS Capital’s Global Markets Portfolios unit writes primarily follow lines on a portfolio basis across a wide range of industries, classes of business and geographies. We have growth goals along multiple fronts in the fast-evolving portfolio solutions space.
What will you do in this role?
The Assistant Underwriter, Global Markets Portfolios will support a dedicated portfolio solutions underwriting team across several key functions, including (but not limited to):
• Review and evaluate new and renewal business based on company underwriting guidelines, business unit strategy and risk appetite, and market dynamics.
• Prepare underwriting deal assessment papers, summaries, and presentations for internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and clarity of information.
• Conduct research to support underwriting decisions, including market trends, regulatory/compliance and legal requirements, and industry performance benchmarks.
• Review coverage requests provided by brokers and coverholders and assess the business unit’s position relating to such requests. Present findings and recommendations to manager for approval or guidance.
• Assist in the maintenance of underwriting files, documentation, and records, in compliance with underwriting team standards, company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Stay informed about developments in the specialty insurance industry, including emerging risks, regulatory changes, and best practices in portfolio solutions underwriting.
• Account management
o Enter and check data for assigned accounts in underwriting systems/spreadsheets and on relevant external market placement platforms.
o Review internal and external management information packs and advise manager and teammates of key insights and account/market updates.
o Partner with teammates to onboard and monitor new accounts, and query and correct internal management information, and any required external account reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis.
o Partner with Actuarial teammates to monitor and analyse account and portfolio metrics and market performance trends; make recommendations to manager.
• Assist in the development of the unit’s annual underwriting plan and budget reporting process.

About You:

What you need to have:
• 1-3 years of experience in (re)insurance underwriting support or risk management preferred – ideally with some experience with delegated authorities in a Lloyd’s syndicate operation
• Ability to build new and existing broker/coverholder relationships
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
• Team player who is effective working in a close and collaborative team environment
• Open communication style and excellent presentation skills

• Be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week
• Meet with brokers, coverholders and other external parties with manager support
