Why this job matters

The BT Group Transformation Planning team is part of the Strategy & Change (S&C) Unit led by the Chief S&C Officer, which in turn is part of the BT Group Corporate Units.

One of the primary objectives of the Group S&C team is to accelerate and enhance the delivery of the transformation goals.

In support of this the objectives of the Group Transformation Planning team are to:

• Secure commitment to the baseline roadmap for approach, milestones, timeline, dependencies, cost and benefit, quality and risk

• Ensure transformation is fully funded (capex, opex and specifics) and provide oversight to investment decisions that impact the Group Transformation Portfolio

• Ensure that actual or potential deviations from the baseline roadmap, benefits and scope are controlled

• Optimise performance and contractual relationships with 3rd party suppliers that support transformation related activities and systems.

The role works closely with the Group Transformation Planning Director, Group colleagues and unit transformation leads to deliver the planning, scope control and stakeholder engagement necessary to drive successful delivery of Transformation.

Key elements of the role include:

Planning

• Works with the Group Transformation Planning Director to build and maintain BT Group’s overall transformation roadmap

• Build and drive the integrated plan linking product rationalisation, customer migrations, legacy IT and network shut-down and building closure

• Highlight actual or potential deviations from the baseline roadmap and integrated plan and proactively ensure they are resolved by accountable owners

• Enable prioritisation and sequencing of dependencies and work collaboratively with leaders of major transformation programmes to manage them

• Develop and embed tools to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of transformation delivery

Scope

• Consolidate and secure buy in to Transformation scope ensuring that unit and Group plans reflect it

• Govern changes to scope ensuring that balanced decisions are taken with pace, cognisant of the impact they have

• Implement measures that demonstrate progress on the delivery of scope and align these with roadmaps and plans

Engagement

• Partner with and influence stakeholders at all levels, particularly executive and senior leaders in Group and unit transformation teams, to gain buy in and establish accountability, and input to plans to ensure success

• Build a change narrative and engagement plan to secure the support of relevant stakeholders

• Deliver the change narrative, monitoring its necessary success in influencing behaviours

• Act as a trusted advisor to key decision-makers / transformation leaders, using data-led insight and plans to support major business decisions on transformation and drive consistent messaging across the transformation

• Operates as an SME in Transformation Planning to provide deep commercial and industry expertise across the Change part of S&C and use this to inform transformation delivery

Leadership

• Provide advice and coaching on governance and assurance issues to the S&C teams and wider transformation profession BT-wide

• Drive knowledge sharing on emerging trends and changes in transformation principles and practices

• Identifies and removes obstacles to delivery of transformation objectives, acting as a point of escalation and using escalation paths where necessary

• Highly disciplined planning skills, with the ability to extract and consolidate necessary inputs, dependencies and risks

• Strong leadership skills to lead matrix teams and influence stakeholders

• Ability to assimilate and interpret situations and data and develop appropriate scope, measures and milestones

• High levels of resilience to engage positively in challenging situations

• Intellectual curiosity to rapidly build a comprehensive understanding of the BT Group and its businesses and value drivers, and the sector and markets in which it operates

• Skilled and inspiring communicator, capable of designing and delivering clear, compelling and engaging presentations and of influencing a wide range of audiences, sometimes with a need to balance conflicting stakeholder objectives

• Outstanding interpersonal skills with a genuine interest in, and curiosity for, people – and the ability to engage and to build relationships both internally and externally at all levels

The experience you'll have

• Leading the build and delivery of roadmaps and integrated plans utilising a variety of methods including Agile, Hybrid, Six Sigma and Lean in organisation-wide cost transformation programmes

• Establishing effective mechanisms for articulating scope, securing consensus to it and governing change that includes material trade-offs in large portfolio environments

• Designing and implementing metrics that demonstrate scope delivery including complexity and quality

• Developing and executing a stakeholder engagement plan in a large, matrixed organization, with clear, measurable impact on stakeholder behaviours

• Good understanding of the technology and telco sectors, including current and emerging developments around Cloud, SaaS and AI/GenAI

• Experience of inputting into the financial analysis of transformation plans, including capex and opex allocations and timings
