Team/Role Overview

Enterprise Risk Analytics & Stress Testing (ERA) is a part of Citi’s Risk Management organization that is responsible for Enterprise-level risk metrics including stress testing. Enterprise-wide stress testing programs are sponsored by the Citigroup CRO, who reviews the stress testing results with the rest of the executive management team.

Enterprise Risk Analytics & Stress Testing is responsible for Enterprise Stress Testing with Legal Entity Oversight (LEO), Material Legal Entity (MLE) Stress Testing and ICAAP execution and oversight, Firmwide Scenario Design and Expansion which cover Enterprise programs and all Legal Entities.

The Climate Scenario Design (CSD) team within ERA is responsible for designing climate stress test scenarios across enterprise and legal entities.

The Senior Climate Economist in the Climate Scenario Team will report to the Head of Climate Risk Scenario Design

What you’ll do

  • Providing both subject matter expertise and hands on experience in econometric model development, execution, and assessment.

  • Providing thought leadership in designing, developing, and executing statistical and econometric methods for projecting macro-financial as well as climate-specific variables and shocks (energy transition pathways, extreme weather events, sea level rise etc.).

  • Analysing climate scenarios and suggesting different potential forward looking paths using either judgement or models.

  • Providing leadership and communication skills to signal to key stakeholders the results of their forecast and its implication to the broader regulatory initiative.

  • Following and analyzing climate developments in key developed and emerging market economies, assessing vulnerabilities, and making economic forecasts.

  • Interpreting scenario variable pathways and ensuring variable projections are consistent with scenario assumptions, model assumptions and statistical and econometric foundation assumptions.

  • Conducting necessary forecast oversight to ensure historical data and forecast consistency.

  • Monitoring local, regional and global climate trends (technology, policy, consumer as well as physical risk) and to identify and analyze key climate risks, along with their implications for national, industry-specific and local macro variables.

  • Articulating and disseminating rationale for forecasts based on macroeconomic and financial linkages, within the backdrop regulatory scenarios (NGFS, Bank of England, Banque de France etc.).

What we’ll need from you

  • Demonstrated years of economist experience in a major financial, public or international institution.

  • Expertise in at least one of these fields (a combination of two or all three): macro-economic analysis, energy systems or climate economics.

  • Expertise in macro-economic scenario review and narratives.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to present in senior management and regulatory forums.

  • Experience in Python, R, SAS, MATLAB or some other programming environment.

  • Previous experience in a role requiring managing/analysing large data sets and presenting the data visually to non-expert audience is highly desired.

  • Background from graduate level time series econometrics, macro econometrics or any other quantitative discipline is essential to be successful in this role

  • Ideally Master’s degree in economics, econometrics, mathematics, statistics equivalent. PhD preferred otherwise equivalent relevant experience
