The American Express Global Privacy Oversight are trusted advisors on the American Express Data Protection & Privacy Principles. We work to raise privacy awareness, drive compliance with both internal privacy policies and regulatory expectations across the organization and establish privacy as a strategic differentiator for the American Express brand. As a second line of defense function, Global Privacy oversee, provide expertise in, and challenge the identification, management, and mitigation of privacy risks across the company in line with the privacy framework and the company’s vision to provide the world’s best customer experience every day.

This position is based in London, and reports to Manager, International Privacy.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Provision of privacy risk oversight management, strategic guidance and consultation to American Express businesses, with a focus on the UK and the EMEA region

  • Supporting the development, coordination and implementation of American Express’ global privacy program

  • Ensuring adherence to the enterprise privacy risk appetite globally through effective privacy oversight and second line of defence challenge

  • Partnering with other stakeholders in overseeing privacy legal/regulatory change management

  • Fostering a culture of privacy at American Express by advocating for privacy-by-design, integration of the American Express Data Protection & Privacy Principles, accountability and sharing of best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in privacy, data protection, compliance and/or risk management and oversight, including risk assessment and determining adequacy of operational risk controls

  • Ability to communicate complex or novel concepts clearly and concisely with strong written and verbal skills

  • Highly organized and proficient in managing multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Self-motivated mindset with the ability to take the initiative and work independently as needed.

  • Strong communicator who can work within and across direct reporting lines to support the delivery of objectives under high volume and tight time frame constraints.

  • Team player who can build relationships across functional teams

Preferred:

  • Experience at a financial services or other highly regulated company

  • Relevant professional qualifications preferred, e.g. law degree, Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification

  • Understanding of privacy legal and regulatory requirements within the UK and across Europe and appreciation of various cultural perceptions of privacy in different jurisdictions
