Our industry is rapidly evolving, and we need courageous, quick thinkers who can shape the pricing strategies that drive our business forward. Whether it’s negotiating with some of our largest global partners or creating specific country or industry pricing solutions, you can influence the single largest source of American Express’ revenue: Merchant Discount Revenue. As part of the Global Merchant Services (GMS) Pricing team you will determine the optimal discount rate pricing to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction, essential to the strength of our business.

How will you make an impact in this role?

This Pricing Manager role will be responsible for project managing key central initiatives for GMS, passionate about leading the Acquirer Platform Transformation (APT) workstream for Pricing. This project will deliver a new globally aligned accounts payable platform as part of our modernisation efforts. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Strategic Planning and Infrastructure and be accountable for managing this multi-year project to deliver a transformational change for the business.

  • Collaborate with the Global Pricing Team to efficiently manage pre-migration clean-up and ensure a seamless transition to the new platform

  • Build repeatable processes to deliver a consistent approach to clean-up, developing a global playbook to document the approach taken

  • Own the validation of testing results to ensure the accuracy of the new pricing platform, and deliver a detailed post-migration review of all activities

  • Develop sophisticated financial models to analyse various pricing scenarios on new strategies, and answer ad-hoc queries related to the proposed changes

  • Create and deliver compelling presentations based on detailed data analysis for a range of high-profile strategic projects to facilitate decision making by senior leaders

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the business including the client management team, servicing and technology teams to drive strategic projects and deliver goals

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong project management skills with full ownership from analysis through to implementation

  • Strong interest in analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw valuable insights from large amounts of data

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral – with experience leading discussions with Senior Leaders where decisions need to be made based on the facts presented

  • Proven strategic thought leadership and comfort working with unstructured problems with an ability to challenge the status quo and embrace new thinking

  • Positive relationship management and collaboration skills with the ability to influence others in situations where there may be different goals

  • Results driven with the ability to work under pressure, navigate through ambiguity, draw linkages, and balance multiple priorities.

  • Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint to an advanced level, SQL/Python skills desirable
