The Role: The Managing Editor is a core member of the Crop Science team and is involved in the daily production and publication of quality news and analysis of the crop protection, seeds and digital agriculture sectors for our global clients. The person will be expected to become an expert on all developments and trends in the global industry, through which they will also support other colleagues in client calls and presentations.

The Team: We are currently looking for a Managing Editor to join S&P Global Commodity Insights’ dynamic Crop Science Market Reporting team to support the ongoing industry leading news service. The Crop Science team produces world class news, analysis, forecasts and data across global seed and crop protection markets.

What’s in it for you:

  • The successful candidate would lead and guide a team of experienced reporters based globally who are specialists in regional regulatory and market developments in the Crop Science industry.

  • Opportunities to represent S&P Global Commodity Insights at industry events, face-to-face meetings, presenting at conferences and webinars to further develop S&P Global as the leading presence in the Crop Science markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily planning, writing, editing and publishing of news from the global crop protection, seeds and digital agriculture industries. The person will be responsible for the smooth and timely flow of news, analysis and interviews and will have a knack for spotting trends on which to produce timely content.

  • Coordinate editorial publications and meetings.

  • Create and manage detailed content schedules.

  • Analyze performance metrics across pre-defined parameters to quantify results.

  • Monitor and optimize performance to meet traffic, engagement and growth targets.

  • Implement best practices, workflows, tools and templates to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the publishing process.

  • Attend events on behalf of the company.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Editing and writing prowess: First and foremost, the candidate should have excellent spoken, written and editing skills in English. He/she should have prior experience in handling editorial functions in a newsroom. We follow a stringent peer-proofing process, and the candidate should be able to contribute to this meaningfully. Our high-quality reporting makes us the go-to news service for the agrochemical industry, and the applicant must be able to uphold and improve our editorial integrity.

  • News sense: We provide a very specialized service that differs from regular news coverage in terms of approach and content. An understanding of the topics we cover is essential. Crop protection is a fast-evolving sector, and the areas we focus on change based on requirements that are assessed internally. The candidate should have the aptitude to adapt to these changes and promptly incorporate them into his/her workflow.

  • A deep interest in agricultural markets and how they operate. As our focus is on Crop Science, with an emphasis on crop protection, seeds and digital agriculture, familiarity with these areas is preferred. Relevant work experience, on top of writing and editing skills, will be an added advantage.

  • Self-starter: We are a small team spread across the globe, with each reporter specializing in specific regions. The candidate must have the ability to work through unforeseen disruptions and ensure that crucial news coverage continues unhindered, and content updated on the website.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of eight years of previous working experience in reporting and editorial functions.

  • Exceptional ability in copywriting and editing.

  • Excellent MS Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint skills.

  • Good knowledge of content management systems.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Outstanding communication, presentation and leadership skills.

  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills, and the ability to develop trust and respect from both colleagues as well as clients.
