Why this role matters

The Data Insight and Analytics Specialist will support a risk management framework that helps BT Group be smart with risk, making informed decisions that enable a progressive, trusted and resilient company to connect for good. In supporting the Internal Audit function, the role also helps the business connect for good by being a trusted, critical friend.

The Tools and Operations team are at the heart of Group Internal Audit and Risk (GIAR), providing the infrastructure and tools to support GIAR in delivering services and support across BT Group efficiently. This role is key in supporting the Audit and Risk teams with effective usage of data, including: exploiting data analytics and insight on audit assignments; metrics automation with other systems; and powerful dashboarding, reporting and insight across the risk, controls and assurance landscape.

What you'll be doing

  • Drive the future direction of data usage, analysis and insight for all aspects of audit and risk work.

  • Research and drive data analytics tooling and techniques to enhance Internal Audit work.

  • Build relationships with other Data Specialists across BT to share good practice and drive efficiency.

  • Utilise data analytics tools and techniques to directly assist auditors with their audit testing, providing entire population analysis and insight.

  • Provide guidance and education for data analytics and data usage within Internal Audit.

  • Utilise and develop data automation and data wrangling to drive risk appetite and control effectiveness metrics.

  • Maintain and manage data insight dashboards and reporting within core audit and risk application and insight tooling.

  • Accountability for design and production of insight reporting to the audit and risk teams, senior management and the Board around the risk and assurance framework, and all audit output.

The skills you'll need

  • Strong technical ability with data structures, data analytics, query languages and insight reporting tools.

  • Experience with data wrangling and automation to drive insight and efficiency.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a strong background in building the case for change.

  • Ability to engage with users to interpret requirements and deliver solution specifications.

  • Ability to interpret data into meaningful visualised insight, to inform decision making.

  • Strong planning and organising skills with an ability to act as coach and mentor for other others.

  • Audit and/or risk experience, utilising data analytics as part of audit assignments – desirable
