Phillips 66 Crude Position Keeper in London, United Kingdom

Basic Function

Working alongside the other Crude Position Keeper, the primary role is to complete daily bench exposure calculations & reports for trading bench purposes, including formulation of hedging programmes for physical cargoes. Assist the Trading Manager & Traders with recurring and adhoc tasks to efficiently operate the business and generate income. This position will spend approximately 60% of their time performing the above responsibilities. Secondary, support for derivatives position keeping and assist in the development of robust system tools to manage trade entry and hedging requirements for SAP interfacing.

This position is an excellent opportunity to learn the foundations of Physical and Financial commodity Trading and should provide a solid platform for development into future Commercial roles. This position is also expected to provide cover for and work with other Position Keeper roles across the trading floor as required.

Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for physical cargo position keeping on Europe Crude trading desk.

  • Updating market publication pricing, processing programme changes and loading in-house hedges into SAP.

  • Loading executed hedging and physical contracts into SAP.

  • Producing programme exposure reports

  • Support of primary position keeper in relation to derivatives position keeping

  • Loading financial trades into SAP.

  • Calculate all hedging for physical cargos and communication requirements to the London Crude Traders.

  • Working with F&PA and Risk to accurately report MTM and P&L

  • Assist with the development, testing and implementation.

  • Provide back-up for the other commodity position keepers in London as required.

  • Assist with forthcoming SAP upgrade.

Secondary Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Seek to better understand the macroeconomic factors that affect the trading markets, work with the relevant Trading Strategist to develop methodologies to perform fundamental and technical analyses on the global and regional markets and sectors.

  • Provide key interface point with other S&T market analysis personnel in support of crude trading opportunities.

  • Identify, implement, and track business improvement opportunities.

  • Prepare ad hoc presentations for management.

Critical Skills/Leadership Criteria

  • Hold the legal right to live and work in the UK on a permanent basis without restrictions, or meet the relevant criteria for employer sponsorship.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Experience within a commodity Risk/Reporting role.

  • Willingness to work hard and a passion to learn about markets and what drives them.

  • Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills to support business focused analysis and decisions.

  • Ability to function and thrive in a dynamic and demanding work environment.

  • Financial, economic and statistical analysis and/or modelling experience.

  • Strong Excel, VBA, Tableau skills. Knowledge of SAP – deal entry, report generation, etc.

  • Excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills.

  • Strong commercial acumen; quick thinker.

  • Basic understanding of macroeconomic business environment drivers, i.e. supply, demand, price drivers.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills.

  • Strong desire for personal learning and sharing of skills with others; team player.

  • Understanding of financial instruments used in commodities trading; futures, swaps, options.

  • Confident and inquisitive.

Phillips 66 has significant marketing operations in Europe. In the UK the business is primarily wholesale, selling fuels to distributors (some of whom are branded JET) and resellers. The fuels are either collected by customers or delivered through a contracted road tanker fleet operating out of a number of UK distribution points. In addition, Phillips 66 Limited supplies a network of approximately 330 independently owned petrol forecourts, all of which are branded JET.

Other markets served are aviation, marine and LPG. JET supplies some of the UK's growing secondary airports using owned and shared refuelling tankers and storage, and delivers to airlines through contracted refuelling operations. Marine markets are served using contracted vehicles, as is the LPG business.
