Sony Pictures Entertainment Creative ML & Data Analytics Engineer in London, United Kingdom

Please note that this role is based in the United Kingdom . The Tech Dev team leads the research and deployment of technical initiatives across Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). The wide gamut of requirements from the different business sectors within SPE requires people within this team to have a broad set of skills, from upstream data analytics to practical hands-on Production/Post-Production experience.

We are looking for a Creative ML & Data Analytics Engineer to help develop tools for testing and evaluating various technologies, as well as to manage the projects by communicating with Sony group companies and 3rd party technology providers. Could this be you?

The Creative ML & Data Analytics Engineer will also provide software solutions to build efficient workflows for the content production and distribution process. This includes working with production, post-production, VFX, distribution, and other engineers at the studio, Sony group companies, and 3rd party technology providers, to create solutions and/or provide automation to support the creation and distribution of major motion pictures and television content.

This position will offer the space to be an expert in image based ML and have a deep understanding of data structures for customised ML training models. Understanding the AI/ML market is also a key perimeter of this job, as well as having the ability to communicate this highly technical subject to non-technical senior stakeholders.

This position will be based in our London office, however, you will need to be willing to work on multiple time zones depending on specific project requirements. This would likely be Japan and West Coast US time, within reason.

What you'll do:

  • Develop software tools to analyze and process media file formats and audiovisual content

  • Write professional image processing tools

  • Provide automation solutions for various tasks to support production

  • Create software as needed to solve production, post-production, and distribution issues

  • Work on various Machine Learning applications for production, post-production and distribution

  • Apply Data Analytics and natural language processing to support studio’s business need

  • Handle software development and evaluation project by representing the studio and leading the group of engineers from Sony group companies and 3rd party technology providers.

  • Research and develop software tools for media file creation, processing, and codecs

  • Implement image, audio, and text processing algorithms

  • Integrate tools and provide software plug-ins for post-production and distribution

  • Automate process to optimize workflow

  • Interface with Sony group partners and 3rd party companies to run joint technology development projects

  • Capture advanced technology information relevant to studio business, especially in Machine Learning and Data Analytics domain.

What you have:

Knowledge of:

  • Audiovisual content consumer delivery formats, video/audio codecs

  • Professional image processing

  • Post-production workflows

  • Post-production systems for compositing, editing and digital color-correction

  • Machine learning applications such as computer vision

  • Data Analytics and Statistics

  • Programming languages such as Python (advantageous C++)

  • Machine learning based system design

  • Data analysis and statistical modeling

  • Proficiency with all major OS (Linux , Mac, Windows)

  • Cloud workflow development, such as video processing on AWS, Azure

Ability to:

  • Understand academic papers and journals to judge applicability to studio business

  • Learn new content creation technologies in timely manner

  • Perform evaluation of both R&D phase programs and commercial tools

  • Collaborate with project team of engineers including both internal and 3rd party companies

  • Deliver software tools in timely manner

  • Work independently and in teams

  • Clearly communicate with vendors and clients alike

  • Develop technological solutions quickly and without a lot of direction

Language skills:

  • Fluent in English. Other languages beneficial, but not necessary.
