Role Responsibilities

As Commercial and Regulatory Lawyer on our Business Legal team, you will play a key role in providing world-class legal advice and direction for strategic and global initiatives and for all Western Union business units and shared services in the UK and Europe. You will be expected to provide timely and commercial legal and regulatory support for contracts, business-as-usual operations and new initiatives as well as partnering with business leaders to help shape the strategic direction of the company.

You will:

  • Work independently as well as cooperatively, as part of a cohesive regional and global legal team.

  • Review, draft and negotiate agreements for Consumer Money Transfers (Retail and Digital) and various other projects and initiatives, with supervision and support from other legal department team members and in coordination with business leaders and internal stakeholders.

  • Advise on licensing and other regulatory requirements in the region relating to Western Union activities and products.

  • Assist legal counsel in investigating and resolving complaints.

  • Provide clear, usable legal advice to business partners and stakeholders across the organization.

  • Provide legal assistance to senior lawyers in the department.

  • Research and analyze laws as needed.

  • Coordinate with outside counsel.

  • Stay abreast of current legal issues and advise business and senior leadership on pertinent developments.

  • Drive end-to-end customer value and display a customer-first orientation; and

  • Be forward-thinking, adaptable and be able to thrive in a dynamic and high-pressure environment.

Role Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and qualified as a solicitor or equivalent.

  • 3-5 PQE years of related/practical legal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department, with experience in financial services and/or payments industries preferred.

  • Experience in drafting legal documents.

  • Knowledge of the UK legal and regulatory environment.

  • Able to perform independently and with minimal supervision and/or in a team environment when required.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Proven ability to foster collaboration and alignment with key stakeholders.

  • Able to interact and communicate effectively, orally & in writing, with all levels of management.
