Better Decisions Begin with You

At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. As an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive, diverse team, and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.

Wealth Solutions : Retirement

Join Aon as an actuarial consulting pensions graduate and discover how our global team of specialists help businesses make smart choices about their employees’ pensions — now, and into the future.

Right now, UK companies have more invested in pension schemes than the rest of Europe combined. But, has each individual company set aside enough to meet their pensions’ obligations in twenty, thirty or even forty years’ time?

As the market leaders in actuarial consulting, our consultants are here to advise our clients on their defined benefit pension schemes, helping them to handle the associated financial and operational risks, now and in the future. As an Aon graduate, you’ll work alongside the most creative in the industry, earning as you learn and building your career as an Actuary!

With ever-changing markets and legislation, the work you will be doing is constantly evolving and Aon will help you to gain the skills required to be a successful and trusted actuarial consultant for our clients, across a diverse and complex range of topics.

Your role as an Actuarial Graduate in Wealth Solutions : Retirement

As an actuarial graduate, no two days in the office are the same. Our graduates work on a range of client teams with colleagues who provide advice and support to either the trustees handling the pension scheme, or the company that provides it.

Our aim is for you to progress into a trusted advisor for your clients as soon as possible. We’ll help you do this by developing both your technical and consulting skills — including your understanding of key calculations, communication techniques, project management and networking. Throughout your career with Aon, you’ll continually improve your commercial awareness and professionalism — which will help you grow into a successful actuarial consultant.

What your day could look like

Actuarial and Analytical Tasks, such as:

  • Regular assessment of the financial position of pension schemes

  • Identifying and implementing ways for trustees and companies to reduce the risks in relation to their schemes, including longevity risks, investment risks and inflation risk

  • Carrying out calculations relating to the pension scheme for the company's financial accounts; and with respect to individual pension scheme members' benefits

  • Estimating pension protection fund levies

    Client Focused Tasks, such as:

  • Day-to-day management of the pension scheme and internal projects

  • Building and managing relationships with clients and other stakeholders of the scheme

  • Attending and presenting at client meetings

You’ll be able to work on a range of projects, gaining early exposure to clients to support your development. You’ll also have the opportunity to be involved in one of our specialist teams, focusing in areas such as:

  • Risk Settlement, advising clients on the best way to reduce risk through transferring it to a third party.

  • Member Options, helping clients reduce risk and/or cost by offering pension scheme members the choice to reshape their benefits to better suit their individual circumstances.

  • Analysis of mortality and other demographic factors to predict future trends within Aon's Demographic HorizonsTM team.

    Your Development

As an Aon Graduate, you will be enrolled onto our Launch Programme when you join. This development programme is built around 3 core elements :

  • Business learning – on the job learning and experiences enabling you to develop your knowledge and understanding of your team and solution line.

  • Centralised learning - UK graduates complete in an Aon Induction, monthly webinars, business skills training and workshops; all designed to develop your knowledge of Aon, build your confidence and your network across our business.

  • Professional Qualifications – we want you to be as successful as possible, so we’ll fully support your study towards professional qualification as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, primarily via the Level 7 Apprenticeship. To support you as you study for your exams, you’ll receive paid study leave, plus an extensive range of study and tuition materials. To find out more about the actuarial qualification please visit actuaries.org.uk

Your career beyond your Graduate programme

Once you’ve completed the formal graduate programme, you’ll continue to receive lots of support at Aon. As well as continued technical and business skills training, you’ll receive support for your actuarial qualifications. To aid your professional development you’ll receive regular performance feedback, and work with your line manager towards promotions, which are considered twice a year, enabling you to progress from a graduate Analyst to Associate Consultant, then Consultant and beyond!

Throughout this time you’ll have the chance to explore different career paths, you may choose to specialise in advising trustee clients, or corporate pension scheme sponsors. There’s also the opportunity to join and develop a role in one of Aon’s specialist teams, like those listed above. Whichever route you choose, we’ll provide support and training at every step, giving you the tools you need to build an exciting career at Aon.
