U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Technician (Electrical) in Lockport, Illinois

Summary About the Position: Serves as Engineering Technician (Electrical) responsible for design engineering and contract administration of a variety of electrical features and related electrical systems. Responsibilities Carries out the full range of technical engineering functions associated with the mechanical and related electrical features of facility operations. Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment, and circuitry. Repairs and replaces a variety of system parts and components. Provides technical advice concerning system and equipment capabilities and limitations. Reviews product data and Operations and Maintenance (O and M) manuals prior to the start of each maintenance period. Recommends approval of preventative maintenance schedules to reduce impact to operations. Observes and investigates facility service, construction, and operations at all stages to identify problems related to electrical systems. Coordinates construction operations with contractors, utility companies, COR, Centers of Excellence/Standardization, and any other agency representatives. Experience alternating circuit (AC) systems equipment include 120/240-volt single-phase, 120/208/277/480-volt three-phase, and 4,160-volt distribution systems. Ensures strict adherence to safety provisions of the contract and facility. Review and recommended approval of facility service contracts and construction contracts as-built drawings and Operations and Maintenance (O and M) manuals. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify for the GS-11 grade level, you must have: I have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Five (5) years of specialized experience maintaining and troubleshooting AC and DC power systems, conduit bending and threading, oscilloscope understanding and usage, and liquid filled battery maintenance. To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, you must have: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Ten (10) years of specialized experience maintaining and troubleshooting AC and DC power systems, conduit bending and threading, oscilloscope understanding and usage, and liquid filled battery maintenance. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Design Electrical Project Management Quality Assurance Technical Reviews Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent. GS-11 - Must have 52 weeks at the GS-10 grade level. GS-12 - Must have 52 weeks at the GS-11 grade level. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
