Job Overview-

The Nurse Practitioner functions as an independent care provider in collaboration with the medical/surgical staff. Their advanced practice is characterized by comprehensive health assessments and management of patients with acute and/or chronic health problems in the peri-operative cardiothoracic surgery setting. This is an inpatient role.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of New Jersey.

  • Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of New Jersey.

  • Masters prepared in Nursing from an accredited program

  • ACLS certified.

  • Candidate must have cardiacORcardiothoracic surgery experience.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Per Diem

  • Two shifts per month (REQUIRED) (Additional shifts available for pick up)

  • One weekend day per month.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for conducting consults and optimizing patients prior to surgery.

  • Managing patients in the post-operative setting.

  • Managing patients post TAVR.

  • Discharging TAVR patients.

  • Obtain patient histories and perform physical examination.

  • Write admitting orders, routine orders and daily progress notes as indicated.

  • Assess and manage pre- and post-operative conditions as well as common health problems.

  • Order and evaluate pertinent diagnostic tests including but not limited to; Radiology, laboratories and ECG s.

  • Prescribe pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments for appropriate medical conditions.

  • Educate patients and/or families regarding disease process, medical and surgical intervention and health promotion.

  • Document patient teaching.

  • Refers and communicates pertinent abnormalities to surgical director/medical specialist.

  • Removal of invasive drains, lines and catheters, debridement of superficial wound, and perform arterial blood gases.

  • Serves as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff in regards to patient and disease management.

  • Facilitate practices that are in compliance with PRO-NJ and JCAHO requirements.
