City of Littleton Library Associate - Outreach Coordinator in Littleton, Colorado

Bemis Public Library has an opening for an Outreach Coordinator to assess, plan, and help implement outreach services and programs that engage the local community and increase awareness of our organization and its mission. The ideal candidate is passionate about building relationships and creating meaningful connections in the community. They will work closely with the Communications Specialist, Bookmobile Coordinator, and across all divisions of the library. They will be responsible for coordinating the library’s home delivery service and home delivery volunteers. They will provide high-quality customer service to library patrons in navigating and using the full range of the library’s services. Additionally, this position regularly staffs customer service points, primarily the main reference desk and the lower-level reference desk.

In this position you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects such as assessing and formalizing the library's home delivery service, including the patron intake process, screening and training volunteers, and maintaining the digital records. You will also work with the outreach team to develop a system for assessing incoming outreach requests and communicating outreach needs across divisions.

Hiring pay range $25.39 - $28.07 per hour

This full-time position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday/Saturday, weekends and evenings required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares, schedules, evaluates, and participates in community outreach and engagement programs with appropriate institutions and community organizations, independently and in coordination with other library staff.

  • Works with Bookmobile Coordinator to determine appropriate participation of bookmobile at outreach events.

  • Oversees the home delivery service: recruiting and training volunteers; coordinating materials for delivery; maintaining a digital record of patrons, volunteers, schedules, and communications.

  • Works with the Communications Specialist to develop marketing materials to promote home delivery service to patrons and potential volunteers.

  • Provides general reference services and assists customers in navigating and using the library’s range of services, during scheduled shifts at customer service points.

  • Responds to reference and technology-related questions from patrons and staff by telephone, in person, chat, and through email.

  • May often work in coordination with the library’s Communications Specialist on public communication and marketing efforts.

  • Performs other similar duties and related projects as assigned.

  • Drives the bookmobile as needed to support outreach services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in library science, or a related field; and

  • Two (2) years of public library work experience; or

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with community outreach.

  • Experience coordinating volunteers or volunteer programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Strong project management skills to manage and communicate about outreach activities and home delivery services.

  • Ability to operate independently within broad parameters, using own professional judgment.

  • Ability to work in partnership and collaboration with colleagues in the library, in other departments of the city, and in other agencies.

  • Ability to critically evaluate the effectiveness of services, programs, and initiatives; and to identify, recommend, and implement improvements.

  • Solid knowledge of general library principles and procedures to perform the essential duties of the position.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Ability to navigate computer information systems, and access and retrieve desired information.

  • Ability to assist and instruct customers and staff in the use of computer-based technologies and equipment.

  • Strong public speaking skills to make presentations in small or large groups.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • The majority of this position’s work is performed indoors in a public building environment. This work may include occasional exposure to dust from books and electrical hazards from computer equipment.

  • Some work is performed outdoors assisting with library programs, or at community events. This work environment includes prevailing weather conditions.

  • Requires frequent lifting and carrying of books weighing 0-50 pounds, retrieving books and other materials from bookshelves at heights ranging from one foot to seven feet; frequent pushing of wheeled book carts weighing 50-100 pounds with or without assistance.
