Summary

The School Principal is responsible for managing all of the administrative officers and educational leaders of the schools vested with supervisory and administrative authority over the educational programs and all activities in the school buildings. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior. Manages, evaluates, and supervises school operations and functions consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, and goals of the school, including instructional programs, extracurricular activities, and discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, and emergency procedures. Implements School Board Policy, state statutes, and federal regulations, as they pertain to the school district. Supervises the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis, to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development. Encourages the use of community resources, interprets the school program for the community, and maintains communication with community members. Maintains inter-school system communication. Ensures that instructional objectives are aligned with state frameworks and serves as an instructional leader; informs staff of the district's educational philosophy and objectives, and assists them with the planning and implementation of the prescribed instructional programs. Facilitates the development and implementation of an effective staff development program and problem-solving by individuals and groups, utilizes effective communication techniques with students, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders, and works with parents to resolve complaints or concerns. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and polices governing education in the state. Knowledge of the state standards for education. Knowledge of curriculum and instructional programs and practices for appropriate level. Knowledge of scheduling and supervision. Knowledge of instructive and adaptive technology. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage time. Ability to use data in decision-making process. Ability to communicate by presenting written and oral reports. Ability to establish positive interpersonal relations the students and parents.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent to a master's degree from an accredited educational institution in education, special education, psychology, or a related field; plus six years of work experience in an educational setting. Must be licensed as a certified and or/licensed Administrative Level Educator. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
