Phillips 66 Welder, Bayway Refinery in Linden, New Jersey

The Welder , Bayway Refinery works independently and with others to perform preventative, predictive, and routine maintenance tasks. They troubleshoot issues, repair failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensure maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. The Craftsperson assures compliance with all Company policies and procedures and training requirements.

*The anticipated start date for this position is November 2024. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

**The starting pay for this position is $39.19 per hour. Future pay changes will be determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Fabricating or making repairs to vessels, tanks, exchangers, piping system or other equipment that requires repair in the field.

  • Welding all materials commonly found in a refinery such as carbon steel, chrome, stainless, Monel, Hastelloy, and aluminum; must be code certified.

  • Fabricating pipe spools or piping systems from engineered drawings, and make weld repairs by cladding, patching, banding, and installing couplings.

  • Welding in all work positions using SMAW and GTAW processes, SAW, Metallic Inert Gases (MIG), use large hydraulic and pneumatic tools and operating motorized and manual equipment.

  • Following company policies and procedures and completing required training

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Maintain a valid driver's license

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

  • Willing and able to perform/comply, with or without a reasonable accommodation, with the following:

  • To climb up to 150 feet in height

  • To lift and transport materials (up to 50 pounds), bend, stoop, perform moderate manual labor, work in confined spaces, climb, and work at various levels above the ground

  • To maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

  • To wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to steel-toe shoes, ear protection, eye protection, fire retardant clothing

  • To work overtime

  • To work outdoors including in inclement weather conditions

  • To work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos

  • To work around chemicals, including acids and bases, that may be under high pressure and heat

  • To read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits, instruction manuals

  • To perform firefighting duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of experience as a Welder

  • 3 or more years of experience in an industrial setting such as a refinery, petrochemical plant, nuclear powerplant, pharmaceutical plant, brewery, or mill

The Bayway Refinery is located on the New York Harbor in Linden, New Jersey. Bayway's facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, solvent deasphalting, hydrodesulfurization and alkylation units. The complex also includes a polypropylene plant with the capacity to produce up to 775 million pounds per year. The refinery processes mainly light and medium, low-sulfur crude oil. Foreign crude oil is supplied to the refinery by tanker, and domestic crude oil is supplied through a combination of rail and marine transportation. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petrochemical feedstocks, residual fuel oil and home heating oil. Refined products are distributed to East Coast customers by pipeline, barge, rail car and truck.
