Nelnet NFS Financial Analyst I in Lincoln, Nebraska

Provide ongoing financial analysis reporting on servicing and financial data and research as it relates to the segment financial statements and associated financings.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and research of financing-related legal documents. Prepare written detailed summaries of findings for dissemination to supervisor and upper management.

  • Monitor and assist with the administration of required bond redemptions and interest payments.

  • Monitor and analyze cash balances held by trustees for purposes of preparing compliance “waterfall reports”. Perform analysis for purposes of determining the sufficiency of meeting waterfall and debt redemption cash needs of the financing and the correct application of funds. Analyze ongoing origination and loan purchase cash needs for purposes of preparing Warehouse Financing draw requests.

  • Monitor and analyze portfolio characteristics for compliance and financial needs.

  • Complete monthly semiannual and/or annual financing reports as required. Such preparation shall include the calculation of financial ratios statistics and other financial measurements and triggers that serve as covenants under the related financing documents. Such reports may also include the analysis balancing and summarizing of transactional information as it relates to the student loan portfolio and as provided by a multitude of servicers. Assist in the review of other Analysts reports as requested.

  • Compile servicing related data and coordinate recording entries in GL and payments with outside vendors.

  • Calculate accruals and prepare financial statement entries. Prepare monthly reconciliations general ledger accounts.

  • Calculate interest rates on various structures and perform various other analysis and reporting related to interest rates.

  • Assist with complex ad-hoc analytical or compliance projects as required for both internal and external parties.

  • Leverage accounting and finance software system for budgeting/planning and reporting functions.

  • Independently formulate and propose solutions to compliance related issues and processes while consistently considering the overall corporate “big picture”. Provide recommendations and suggestions as they relate to the setup and structuring of new reporting processes and analytical projects. Propose improvements to current processes.

EDUCATION : Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting or relevant experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • Financial analysis experience with a proven record of success.

  • Previous experience in reporting and analyzing financial data.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting theories practices and financial concepts relative to profitability and financial ratios. Knowledge of income statement and balance sheet relationships.

  • Excellent PC skills including the application of Excel.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in report package completion and/or development.

  • Financing compliance related background.

  • Proven record of interpreting understanding and implementing financing related legal documents and concepts.

  • Student loan experience.

  • Ability to view concepts in a detailed fashion as well as from a departmental corporate-wide and/or industry-wide perspective (understands “big picture”)

  • Excellent presentation of reports and correspondence (both internal and external) with a consistently very high level of accuracy

Compensation range for this position is $45,000-$60,000 depending on experience.
