The Role

The Vendor Management Office (VMO) is within the Network, Engineering, Technology & Security (NETS) organization and collaborates with internal business partners to manage Lumen activities with software (SW) and services suppliers. In an ever-changing industry, we help our stakeholders navigate business relationships and contracts, maximize the value of our agreements, ensure that current and future business needs are met, mitigate business risks, and align with financial objectives.

The VMO is currently hiring a Lead IT Software Asset Management Analyst who will partner on a $50-million-dollar-plus portfolio of SW entitlements (perpetual and subscription) to provide consistency with industry Software Asset Manager (SAM) best practices, maintain an effective corporate SW licensing position, and drive vendor-initiated audits. Work assignments will include many vendor products, including major IT industry vendors (e.g., IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Salesforce, SAP).

The Main Responsibilities

  • Developing and improving best practices for achieving SW Asset Management objectives; automating tasks to improve efficiency and mitigate risks, where appropriate; influencing others to adopt best practices.

  • Establishing internal processes to regularly measure and document SW license asset usage.

  • Leading complex data analysis and verification projects: ensure license compliance, help clients get the best value, and establish appropriate levels/ quantities for renewals.

  • Managing large and complex license audit efforts (whether vendor-initiated or internally driven) to conclusion, ensuring that the process aligns with contract rights and best practices.

  • Assessing and refining internal processes and metrics to measure and document SAM team performance and results.

  • Analyzing vendors’ SW terms and conditions to determine alignment with business and user requirements.

  • Recommending terms and conditions that provide the greatest flexibility now and in the future; ensure that language regarding license counts is clear and measurable

What We Look For in a Candidate

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business (e.g., finance, operations, statistics, economics), MIS, Information Technology, Computer Science, or with equivalent work experience. Master’s degree is a plus.

  • 3-5 years of related experience.

  • Strong ability to use Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, Copilot, and Microsoft SharePoint.

  • Strong analytical skills: contract analysis, data analysis, financial analysis (budget and forecasts, accounting concepts, evaluation of alternatives), process analysis. Understand necessary information; discern relevant facts for decisions. Maintain focus on details, while keeping the big picture in mind. Communicate complex concepts and actionable recommendations to leadership.

  • Ability to determine the root cause of operational and financial challenges and offer options for risk-based mitigation.

  • Ability to lead and work in a team, be self-directed (requires minimal supervision to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously), creative problem solver, quality-focused; applies independent judgment to accomplish objectives.

  • Establish repeatable processes and apply best practices consistently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing complex SW contracts and licensing for a variety of suppliers, both major industry vendors (e.g., IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Salesforce, SAP) and others less well known. Representing and addressing IT’s considerations and interests (from development to infrastructure operations), while conducting vendor-related activities. Financial transactions and purchasing tools.

  • Prior experience using SW management-related tools such as Flexera Net Management Suite (FNMS) and Flexera AppBroker.

  • Demonstrated strong and positive interpersonal talents; able to interact with and influence people from all disciplines; able to balance persuasiveness and assertiveness to build relations while meeting objectives.

  • Self-awareness of skills and organizational impacts.

  • Organized and structured approach.

  • Preferred: Software Asset Manager Certification (SAM)

Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

$99,390 - $132,510 in these states: AL AZ FL GA IA IN KS MO MT ND NM OH OK PA TN UT VT WI WV WY

$104,360 - $139,140 in these states: CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI

$109,330 - $145,770 in these states: AK CA CT DC DE IL MA MD NJ NY TX VA WA

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
