HireVue Director/Manager of Engineering, Developer Experience | Fully Remote US in Lincoln, Nebraska

As HireVue continues to build out our Engineering team, we are looking for either a Director or Manager or Engineering, Developer Experience. We are open to candidates at either level in their career, as we want to ensure we have the best talent in the position. In this role, you will report directly to our VP of Cloud Engineering and be responsible for leading the developer experience. You will be empowered to drive continuous improvement and constantly evaluate the return on investment on our developer approaches - CI/CD, Automated testing frameworks, and release management and automation.

The Director/Manager of Developer Experience will be pivotal in shaping and enhancing our development infrastructure. This role is responsible for overseeing the continuous improvement of our Infrastructure Efficiency, CI/CD processes, advancing our test automation frameworks, and streamlining release automation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in DevOps, software engineering, and a passion for improving developer productivity and satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • CI/CD Optimization:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of CI/CD and the entire release process to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery.

  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to identify and address bottlenecks, streamline workflows, and integrate best practices.

  • Evaluate and integrate new CI/CD and release practices, tools, and technologies to enhance pipeline performance and scalability through automation.

  • Test Automation Framework Development:

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of test automation frameworks to ensure comprehensive and efficient testing across all stages of the development lifecycle.

  • Drive the adoption of best practices in test automation, including the use of appropriate tools, methodologies, and standards.

  • Collaborate with QA teams to ensure seamless integration of test automation into CI/CD pipelines, and release processes.

  • Release Automation:

  • Develop and implement release automation strategies to facilitate smooth and reliable software releases.

  • Coordinate with product management, development, and operations teams to define release schedules and ensure alignment with business objectives.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot release processes, implementing improvements to reduce deployment times and minimize errors.

  • Leadership and Team Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of DevOps engineers, automation specialists, and other relevant roles.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation within the team.

  • Provide guidance and support in career development and skills enhancement for team members.

  • Strategic Planning and Reporting:

  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for developer experience improvements, aligning with overall business goals.

  • Analyze metrics and performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of CI/CD, test automation, and release processes.

  • Report on progress, challenges, and achievements to senior leadership and other stakeholders.

  • Infrastructure Efficiency:

  • Help optimize cloud resources and costs through effective capacity planning, utilization monitoring, and performance tuning.

  • Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to automate infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and orchestration using infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Evaluate and select appropriate cloud services, platforms, and technologies, considering factors such as cost, performance, and security.

  • Design and develop cloud-based architecture and solutions to meet business and technical requirements, ensuring scalability, performance, and high availability.

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or relevant experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in software development, with a strong background in DevOps, CI/CD, and automation.

  • Proven experience leading and managing teams, with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Expertise in CI/CD tools and release processes.

  • Proficiency in test automation tools and frameworks, such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, or equivalent.

  • Strong understanding of release management and automation strategies.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for process optimization.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
