Libby School District 4 2024-25 0.5FTE Counselor - Grades 7th & 8th in Libby, Montana

I. NATURE OF POSITION:

  • The Middle School Guidance Counselor is under direct supervision of the principal and will perform assigned administrative and guidance duties related to the promotion and coordination of the Middle School and Senior High School guidance program and total educational effort.

  • The Middle School Guidance Counselor will work with department chairmen, advisory committees, various school and community coordinators and service personnel in an effort to furnish current and applicable programs and services to each student.

  • The Middle School Guidance Counselor will work with students on an individual or group basis in the solution of educational or personal problems related to school, home, health, and emotional adjustments.

    II. TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Consider all available materials and resource personnel in an effort to develop the most appropriate and effective programs.

  • Maintain an updated career center for students that includes professional, vocational, and college catalog information.

  • Administer appropriate testing programs to facilitate individual guidance and curriculum evaluation.

  • Work cooperatively with teachers, standing committees and the principal to develop needed curriculum changes and revisions.

  • Provide in-service sessions to staff members regarding drug education, teacher-student communication and related areas.

  • Act in the capacity of advisor to staff and administrative personnel concerning issues reflecting upon the individual welfare of students.

  • Assist administration in developing a class schedule and related topics.

  • Assist the administration in the annual registration, scheduling and orientation of all students.

  • Work as a liaison between the staff, administration, parents, and students.

  • Help students evaluate interests and choices.

  • Interpret the guidance program to the staff and community.

  • Assist in the orientation of new faculty members.

  • Maintain student records and protect their confidentiality.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive guidance program to middle school students.

  • Complete all departmental reports and surveys.

  • Work to improve his knowledge of subject area and development of teaching techniques.

  • Perform other related duties and activities as assigned.

    III. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be certified and properly endorsed in secondary guidance by the State Department of Public Instruction.

  • Have minimum of three years successful teaching experience.

  • Possess a strong belief in the worth of each individual.

Salary Range $18,665.00 - DOE / Per Year
