Position Summary

This position involves work in planning, coordinating, promoting, directing and evaluating programs, activities and events for the Parks & Recreation Department focusing on senior programs and trips.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements recreation programs, activities, events and trips suited to the needs of participants and potential participants. Consults with individuals and groups that impact the recreation programs, activities and events to determine their interests, needs and desires.

  • Coordinates and/or teaches a variety of recreational programs and activities as needed.

  • Travels with groups.

  • Assists in the preparation of promotional materials, program brochures, manuals and rules and regulations used by the department.

  • Acts as department liaison to Johnson County Nutrition.

  • Manages volunteers involved in a variety of related recreation activities and events.

  • Maintains records and prepares reports including program attendance reports, quarterly class reports and statistical reports.

  • Manages budget as well as prepares invoices and codes payments correctly.

  • Provides excellent customer service and manages registrations and payments.

  • Drives 15-passenger shuttle bus.

  • Drives City and/or personal vehicles to perform essential functions of position.

Additional Examples of Work Performed

  • Occasional presentations to advisory boards and/or commissions that impact the division and the department.

  • Participates in the divisional budget preparation process.

  • Acts as a replacement during other departmental member-s absences.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Compliance with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Minimum: Associate degree in parks and recreation, leisure services or related field; three years of increasingly responsible experience supervising recreation programs, activities and events; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid driver-s license and have satisfactory credit history. Must complete required NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 trainings within three months of employment.

Desired: Bachelor-s degree in parks and recreation, leisure services or related field; Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification.

Salary range for this position is $54,303 to $62,952 dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
