U.S. Pacific Fleet, Commander in Chief MATERIAL EXAMINER & IDENTIFIER in Lemoore Naval Air Station, California

Summary You will serve as a MATERIAL EXAMINER & IDENTIFIER in the Aviation Support Department of STRIKE FIGHTER WING PACIFIC STAFF. Responsibilities You will pack and/or preserve a wide variety of equipment, parts, tools, materials, and other items. You will use packing and/or preservation materials and packing techniques such as electro-sensitive discharge, and item fast packs, special purpose and multi-application reusable containers to protect sensitive equipment and parts. You will determine the type of protection required to ensure undamaged shipment and storage of items to local, nationwide, or overseas locations based on agency, Federal, international, and other applicable shipping regulations. You will protect material and equipment during storage and shipment, cleaning and preserving a variety of items using chemicals, solvents, preservatives, drying techniques, vacuum equipment, heat sealing machines, etc. You will unload incoming shipments, using common hand tools and materials handling equipment such as forklifts with up to 10,000 pounds capacity, counting and annotating types and quantities of items, segregating items as necessary. You will annotate and sign receiving and other documents, verifying items listed match items received, alerting appropriate authorities of materials having serious discrepancies. You will utilize banding, stretch wraps or other methods to secure materials, scanning bar codes and/or keys receipt information into automated record system, transporting or forwarding materials from receiving areas to storage. You will process outgoing shipments into the electronic Retrograde Management System (eRMS), including creating 1348s, or other shipping documents as required, shipment Manifests, and posting Proof of Shipment. You will determine specific materials to be re-warehoused and consolidated, matching, checking, and comparing data on storage instruments with materials to be stored against materials already in storage locations. You will store, stack, and/or rotate materials under the first in first out (FIFO) concept using common hand tools and materials handling equipment such as forklifts with up to 10,000 pounds capacity. You will clean receipt and storage areas by sweeping, vacuuming, and dusting either manually or with mechanized equipment and perform a broad range of standard selection and assembly assignments. You will match, check, and compare data on selection instruments against materials to be issued or shipped, alerting appropriate authority of material having discrepancies. You will receive and sort incoming ready-for-issue (RFI) and non-RFl aeronautical material, including mechanical, electronic and structural items such as fire-control and navigational mechanisms and devices. You will observe and note physical condition of items received, determining whether accompanying documents are complete and correct, checking items for stock number, part number, quantity and condition. You will identify and classify items which have lost identity or are incorrect, by reference to technical publications, by familiarity with items processed, or by use of measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, or micrometers. You will research stock catalogs, manufacturer's lists, bulletins, and electronic master repair, etc. for stock number, designated overhaul point, shelf life code and proper control markings. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. Work will be conducted on hard surfaces and require standing, stooping, bending, tiring, and uncomfortable positions. You will be required to frequently lift and carry parts, equipment, and packing containers that weigh up to 18 kilograms (approximately 40 pounds) and may be required to lift and carry, with assistance, items weighing up to 32 kilograms (70 pounds). The work is done inside and outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lit. The work is sometimes dusty, dirty, and greasy. You may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease solvents, and high noise in a mechanized work area. You'll be required to wear protective clothing such as, hard hats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. When working with various types of preservatives may be exposed to noxious fumes, skin irritants, and flammable chemicals. You may be required to wear specialized protective devices, in addition to basic protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, and ear plugs).
