Summary The Financial Accounts Technician is organizationally aligned under the Chief Financial Officer, in the Accounts Management department. The employee will be responsible for the accounts receivable (collection) functions of the revenue program including third-party insurance reimbursements and other account receivables. These positions will be located in Leavenworth, KS. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Performs accounts receivable (collection) functions of the revenue program including third-party insurance reimbursements and other account receivables; Analyzes outstanding third-party receivables to determine the best course of action to affect maximum revenue recovery; Receives, processes, and responds to a variety of communications generated by third-party payers; Audits, analyzes, and reviews information regarding the established third-party receivable to discuss the status of the account when inquiry is made on follow-up; Maintains and updates computerized records of debts to document collection efforts and identify trends for management; Coordinates collection efforts utilizing accounts receivable software packages; Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other departments involved with the revenue cycle organization as well as external organizations; and Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must meet one of the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Financial Accounts Technician GS-5.Specialized experience includes: performing accounts receivable (collection) functions; applying of third party billing and insurance reimbursement procedures; utilizing an automated accounting/debt management system; reviewing and analyzing claims; maintaining files; and utilizing various standard office software applications. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title; duties; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Work is performed in a normal office environment.
