Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Government Services division is seeking a Hazardous Waste Supervisor to provide support to the installation Hazardous Waste (HW) Program at Hill Air Force Base, UT.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of RCRA compliance inspections.

  • Perform Waste characterization and determine disposition in accordance with federal, state, and local, and DoD regulations.

  • Monitor employee Health & Safety in coordination with Stantec H&S Director.

  • Provide support for the facility audit/cost reporting.

  • Contribute content to the Monthly Status Report.

  • Oversight of container management/movement.

  • Manage CAA & TSDF storage facilities for hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

  • Onsite personnel and subcontractor management.

  • Coordinate facility transportation and disposal services in coordination with HW PM.

  • Maintain employee training (RCRA, TSCA, DOT, EPA, OSHA, etc.) and training matrix.

  • Provide customer support and technical expertise to customer support representatives and program managers.

  • Adapt to changes and streamline processes.

  • Assist in new hire process.

  • Identify and mitigate facility and personnel risks.

  • Monthly purchases of HW supplies and services and expense report reconciliation.

  • Maintain, implement, and annually update the existing HWMP.

  • Statistical data review and generation.

  • Support facility improvements.

  • Identify projects for reducing hazardous waste.

  • Update and maintain electronic database (Waste Information Tracking System).

  • Container disposition.

  • Provide various monthly reports as required.

  • Assist with management of used oil program, incl. tracking, & support.

  • Assist with management of HW recycling program, incl. tracking, & support.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Must be able to obtain Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance and a Common Access Card (CAC).

  • Must have or be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license.

  • Experience using common office software (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).

  • Must be self-motivated individual with a positive and professional attitude and work independently.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external organizations/groups.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret basic financial and technical data, statistics, and related data.

  • Experience in management and handling of hazardous waste.

  • Working knowledge of SDS (Safety Data Sheets).

  • Current, or ability to immediately, obtain a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate.

  • Ability to don and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Basic understanding of hazardous materials.

  • Forklift experience desirable.

  • Minor bench top lab experience desirable.

  • Must have valid driver’s license with good driving record

  • Position requires pre-employment drug screen and baseline physical

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Enterprise Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Management Information System – Hazardous Material Module (EESOH-MIS HM).

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and actions simultaneously.

  • Ability to comfortably teach classes of up to 50-100 people.

  • Ability to understand and interpret legal and other requirements such as EPA, NFPA and OSHA codes, AF policies, etc.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum five years’ experience or post-high school degree/certificate in a related field.

  • Bachelor’s Degree Environmental Science, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.

  • Experience managing hazardous material or waste programs preferred.

  • Experience working at military installations and industrial operations.

  • Experience using relational databases and large datasets preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk long distances.

  • Ability to climb ladders.

  • Must be able to lift heavy objects weighing up to 75 lbs. and stand for up to 2 hours at a time

  • Ability to lift items overhead.

  • Ability to pivot or react quickly should an obstacle or hazardous situation arise.
