As we continue to grow, we are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Supplier Development and Quality Manager in our Lawrence, KS location.

This role is the strategic and operational leader for Amarr Supplier Development and Supplier Quality and will supervise and direct the work of a Supplier Quality Engineer as well as provide leadership and consultation to other ASSA ABLOY business units and function as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor at the divisional level when called upon.

As part of the Amarr supply chain, drive & support supplier quality and supplier development activities related to material and components for sectional door products.

Manage and oversee the work of a supplier quality engineer including developing the supplier quality engineer as a successor.

Additional responsibilities will include supporting the supply management organization by owning and managing selected sourcing and VA/VE special projects.

Departmental accountabilities include but not limited to:

  • Primary responsibility is to assist in the Sourcing organization with the overall supplier quality for new, existing products and product changes or revisions. Working according to the ASSA ABLOY standards, both in terms of Quality and Sustainability

  • Responsible for the Supplier audit processes, reporting and results, both in terms of Sustainability Audit and Supplier Quality Process & System Audit. This includes performing Supplier Audits and track audit action items with suppliers and drives open action items to completion. Responsible for audit closure metrics and containment for high-risk elements.

  • Develop Supplier Quality plans together with the suppliers and Sourcing Team both in new product development projects and for existing parts. Guide suppliers to develop quality strategies for continuous improvement.

  • Develop and lead supplier training events including but not limited to control plan development, FMEA / risk assessment, process capability studies, measurement system analysis and metric development.

  • Member of sourcing teams, selecting the right level supplier with capability to succeed.

  • Manage quality escalations when suppliers are unable to recover or correct processes in a timely manner by forming multi-disciplinary teams and involving other ASSA ABLOY divisions and entities as applicable.

  • Participate in the selection process, which includes e.g. stake holder meeting, technical reviews, and auditing of the suppliers.

  • Responsible for supplier PPAP process for new and revised items or for changes in supplier processes, sub-tier suppliers or other sourcing changes.

  • Ensure that suppliers deliver products according to specification at the agreed time for new Sourcing activities/ Development projects and supplier transfers.

  • Responsible for the KPI “DPPM,” “CoPQ-Purchasing” and “Count of Events/Claims” and utilizing them to prioritize the actions in the supply base. Assure the quality of purchased material through continuous monitoring and improving the supplier’s performance.

  • Drive containment actions and long-term solutions towards suppliers on non-conformities found in incoming inspection, production line or field claims. Assists manufacturing/quality engineers to analyse and identify supplier related issues and help in the testing and drive implementation of the most effective solutions in a timely manner.

  • Work with Category Managers and Sourcing Specialists to support Supplier Development process of Preferred and Partner suppliers.

  • Assist the Sourcing Team in the supplier consolidation process.

  • Participate in VA/VE and other cost reduction activities and when assigned lead VA/VE activities.

  • May assist sourcing team with “should-cost” activities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/ Work Experience:

  • Executive presence

  • Self-starter capable of developing, enhancing, and building the supplier development and supplier quality programs.

  • 3-7 years of experience in Supplier Quality /Supplier Development experience with demonstrated examples of driving performance improvements in a supply base.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  • Keen sense of customer service (internal and external)

  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills

  • Processes & procedures oriented.

  • Facilitator of change

  • Effective in dealing with ambiguity.

  • Effective at managing up in the organization with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively at all levels of the organization – executives, managers, staff and support functions, production workers.

  • Unique ability or skill in promoting the organization’s interests while also balancing those of the supplier. Use of facts and due process to effectively drill down to root cause and corrective action.

  • Experience and knowledge of manufacturing and production processes - ideally in two or more of the following: steel, aluminium extrusions, glass, stampings, die castings, injection moulding)

  • Supplier Management Experience

  • Project Management Experience

  • Knowledge of and skills in Quality Management & Quality Control tools, APQP, Flow Diagram, (P)FMEA, Risk Analysis, Control Plan, LEAN, Six Sigma tools, TQM, Kaizen, SPC, Run at Rate.

  • Professional certification in one or more areas of expertise related to the job.

  • Multicultural experience desired including previous experiences working with Asian and other low-cost regions.

  • BS Engineering, Statistics, or Bachelor of Manufacturing Management (BMM) in Quality Management (or similar 4-year degrees with an emphasis on lean and/or quality management)

  • Knowledge and/or experience in “Should Cost Analysis” highly desired.

  • Knowledge of Value Analysis and Value Engineering highly desired
