Job Description:

50% Pre-collegiate Student Support & Outreach : Provide expertise to coordinate and oversee pre-collegiate programs to support initiatives established by the Impact Programs Director. Create and build network relationships to enhance support of pre-collegiate programs. Work closely with the School’s recruitment team to assist in implementing a comprehensive recruitment and outreach strategy. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Identify and establish meaningful and sustainable relationships with middle and high school counselors, teachers, and administrators while also providing information about ongoing summer camps.

  • Provide outreach to high-school counselors, pre-collegiate programs and schools in coordination with School of Business Recruitment team.

  • Organize and oversee the annual Summer Venture in Business (SVB) Program for high school students.

  • Support the recruitment of students into existing and future enrichment programs, including the MSP, Business Honors Program (BHP), Jennette Finance Scholars, Accounting Scholars, and Business Leadership Program (BLP).

  • Foster partnerships with local and regional youth organizations to support student exposure to business. May collaborate with other institutions to develop programs that encourage youth to engage with the local community. Provide enrollment predictions each semester to School leadership so that resources can be allocated appropriately.

  • Coordinate Impact Program activities and social events, ensuring integrated and complimentary efforts with other departments.

  • Develop ongoing student and parent workshops to address unique barriers for students and support students in college choice; potential topics of interest include financing college education, applying for financial aid, completing applications, seeking student employment, navigating campus resources, etc. and may include assisting with ACT or other collegiate prep or tutoring.

  • Host webinars and other recruitment events in coordination with school and university recruitment teams to help students learn more about the School of Business and existing programs.

30% Student Support and Retention : Provide support for students facing academic, institutional, financial or personal barriers that affect their continued enrollment or degree completion at the KU School of Business. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • As a member of the Impact team, establish and maintain a system for providing individualized support to students from identified populations facing these challenges.

  • Serve as resource or ‘case manager’ for identified students. Referring students to and coordinating with other School and University resources including School leadership, faculty, Area Industry Mentors (AIMS), eProgram staff, and Jayhawk Academic Advising (JAA), Financial Aid and CAPS as appropriate.

  • Analyze retention and completion data to identify student challenges and create proactive programming to address needs in advance of anticipated difficulties.

  • Design and implement co-curricular academic enrichment programs for School of Business students including (but not limited to) Math 115 practice exams and tutoring

20% Impact Program Support and School Service : Serve as an active and agile member of the Impact Program team and School of Business.

  • Provide structured support, as assigned by Impact Program Director, to achieve strategic goals. Responsibilities may vary based on individual strengths and program needs. Examples include data analysis, new program design, and promotional items.

  • Analyze program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Propose and implement enhancements to optimize program outcomes and student support.

  • Engage as a team. Collaborate and provide additional support to all area programs to collectively improve student outcomes, including SVB and MSP programs.

  • Manage general administrative tasks including preparing materials, generating reports, creating presentations, setting up meetings and managing correspondence.

  • May hire or supervise student positions.

  • Serve as an engaged member of the Business School staff including attending staff meetings, assisting with School-wide events, and serving on School or University committees, as directed.

  • Complete other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Position Overview:

The KU School of Business is seeking a Student Program Coordinator to serve on its Impact team, a unit devoted to students who face academic, institutional, financial, or personal barriers that may make it difficult for them to attend, remain in, or complete their degree requirements for the School of Business. Impact programs may address students from disadvantaged populations, including first-generation, non-traditional, transfer, rural students, students with disabilities, and others who may not have clear or certain pathways to or within college. As a team, the three (3) Impact Program Coordinators address the full student cycle, including recruitment outreach, program support, advocacy, mentorship, professional development, and successful career transition.

Primary responsibilities of this (one) Impact Program Coordinator will be outreach and retention by developing and administering programs that:

  • Promote awareness among and mentor K-12 students, their parents, counselors, and teachers to help create pathways to college, and includes the Summer Venture in Business program.

  • Assist students with academic, financial, and/or personal needs that demonstrably represent barriers to success in the School and at KU.

This is a full-time, 12-month, staff appointment reporting to the Impact Programs Director. It is designated as an on-campus position. Alternative and flexible work schedules may be evaluated as per KU policy and School guidelines. Office will be located in Capitol Federal Hall, a 166,500 square foot modern facility that the School of Business has called home since 2016.
