If you posess OR have the ability to obtain a CDL Class A within 120 days of hire, then this role is for YOU!* _ Primary Role_ Performs any responsibility that lies within the capability of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training. _ Knowledge/Skills_ * Must possess geographical knowledge of the company's service area and distribution system, as well as an understanding of gradients, piping networks, basic fluid and flow principles, and basic electrical theory and related safety procedures. * Able to interpret diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and maps. Working knowledge of company policies, procedures, and safety practices, as well as state and federal regulations regarding confined spaces, trenching and shoring, and Competent Person. * Knowledge of various materials utilized in the transmission and distribution system and an ability to properly and safely make necessary taps, restraints, and repairs to ensure the integrity of the transmission, distribution, and collection system. * Working knowledge and understanding of contracts covering the installation of water mains, valves, fittings, fire hydrants, and services to ensure that facilities are installed in accord with the contract. _ Certifications and Licensures_ * Active state driver's license required with the ability to pass a motor vehicle report. * CLASS A Commercial Driver's License(Tanker and Hazmat Endorsements) OR the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire. * DOT Physical _ Experience/Education_ * Able to operate company equipment and vehicles necessary for the completion of assigned responsibilities. * Able to perform the essential functions and physical requirements of Utility Mechanic I. * The Utility Mechanic I will be required to pass a qualification examination developed by the company prior to the end of the qualification period. * High School Diploma OR GED required.. _ Competencies_ Champions safety Collaborates Cultivates innovation Customer obsessed Drives Results Nimble learning * Join American Water...We Keep Life Flowing™ * American Water is firmly committed to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and prohibits employment discrimination for employees and applicants based on his or her age, race, color, pregnancy, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, marital status, citizenship, or because they are an individual with a disability, protected veteran or other status protected by federal, state, and local laws.
