ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Juvenile Justice Services is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Child & Youth Program Technician I/II position. This position performs a variety of technical and paraprofessional support duties in detention booking, and other Juvenile Justice Services programs.

Child & Youth Program Technician I: $20.67 $32.80 Hourly

Child & Youth Program Technician II: $22.34 - $34.59 Hourly

The Child & Youth Program Technician I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Child & Youth Program Technician II.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Child and Youth Program Technician I - Equivalent to an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, Education, related behavioral science, or degree related to the work. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Child and Youth Program Technician II - In addition to the above: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience performing technical or paraprofessional juvenile program duties.

All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Working Conditions: Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work with exposure to infectious or contagious diseases. Work with hostile, abusive and emotionally disturbed juveniles.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. Specified positions may require program specific certifications after hire. Possess or obtain first aid and CPR certifications.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a medical examination performed by our examining physician.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs a variety of technical and paraprofessional services for a variety of juvenile detention, delinquency, and related juvenile justice programs under direction from professional staff. Makes booking determinations and processes bookings; maintains order and discipline in the booking area; maintains sight and sound supervision of booking area at all times; contacts families and law enforcement and social agencies; determines if juveniles are physically or mentally impaired, intoxicated or under the influence of drugs and arranges for immediate triage or treatment, if required; ensures detainees' safety. Confirms active warrants and serves warrants on youth as needed. Interacts with children and youth to provide supervision and crisis intervention. Interviews children, youth and parents to obtain pertinent information; contacts schools, employers and others to verify information given; provides program and procedural information; completes forms and documents and writes reports. Establishes and maintains a working relationship with community agencies Verifies probation status and conditions of probation, searches juveniles, secures evidence and reports violations to professional staff. Answers telephone calls to provide information; interviews callers to obtain pertinent information; documents notes and makes appropriate referrals. Receives, interviews and assesses immediate factors affecting juveniles' safety. Conducts assessments of youth for various program participation; determines youth eligibility for programs; identifies community resources and support programs; assists with development of individual service strategies for program youth; implements and monitors various programs, such as occupational skill development and work experience activities. Maintains a variety or records and case files; writes reports, statements, correspondence, and other written materials. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Performs various office and administrative duties, including the operation of standard office equipment. Drives a County motor vehicle in order to transport juveniles.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical court, detention, or juvenile justice services program and office setting, including stamina to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time, and strength to lift materials weighing up to fifty pounds and to restrain violent or aggressive juveniles; vision to use standard office equipment and read printed materials including a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Use standard office equipment and drive a motor vehicle in order to transport children. Strength to lift, carry and restrain children.
