Austin Bridge & Road Austin Bridge & Road is seeking a Night Shift Superintendent for a large-scale project in Mesquite, TX . This position involves providing daily supervision and coordination of civil and structural operations, including pavement markings, concrete barriers, MSE walls, bridge girders, and substructure/superstructure preparation or concrete placements, with a primary focus on achieving safety, quality, production, and schedule goals. Success in this role requires critical thinking, effective decision-making, strong communication skills, adaptability, and a collaborative team-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure jobsite safety by complying with company policies, OSHA standards, and E.E.O. regulations, including conducting regular safety meetings.

  • Guarantee high-quality workmanship through inspections of field construction work in progress and adherence to approved plans and specifications.

  • Manage project estimating, start-up, and close-out activities, including punch lists.

  • Oversee crews, equipment, materials, and subcontractors, including allocation of resources to foremen and coordination of a large onsite equipment fleet.

  • Direct salary staff and develop subordinates, such as Assistant Superintendents and Field Engineers.

  • Read and interpret owner’s drawings and specifications to ensure all staff and subcontractors meet job requirements.

  • Develop and maintain project CPM schedules and “look-ahead” schedules while analyzing job cost reports to meet budget and schedule goals.

  • Supervise self-performed labor, material, and equipment cost management to optimize efficiency and reduce expenses.

  • Act as a liaison between owners, architects, and suppliers to maintain effective communication and collaboration.

  • Monitor all aspects of cost and production, adjusting manpower or methods as needed.

  • Coordinate and supervise the Field Office Manager to ensure accurate records and reporting.

  • Perform inspections, allocate resources, and monitor the progress of equipment and materials.

  • Conduct additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in large heavy civil projects, including TxDOT or highway construction.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is preferred.

  • Experience with demolition, earthwork, concrete paving, and setting temporary concrete barriers is a plus.

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is an advantage.

  • Strong commitment to jobsite safety with a proven record of demonstrating safe work practices.

  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across teams.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment and consistently meet deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.

  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including:

  • Swing shift (12:00 PM to 12:00 AM)

  • Night shift (6:00 PM to 5:00 AM)

  • Availability for on-call work as required.
