Kaiser Permanente Senior Area Administrator - Largo in Largo, Maryland

Job Summary:

Directly and through subordinates, plans, organizes, directs, and controls the operation of assigned areas (e.g., general administrative, patient care, professional services and/or a combination of these and other services). Contributes toward the overall development of programs and services to provide for the needs of members, physicians, and staff. Assists VP, Ambulatory Care & Clinical Services in providing strategic leadership to management to ensure equitable distribution of resources and delivery of high-quality, cost-effective health care and efficient arrangement of staff in accordance with goals, objectives, policies, and applicable regulatory agency rules and regulations. This position oversees the operating results, strategic direction, and growth of assigned areas of responsibility.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Directly and through subordinates, assists VP, Ambulatory Care & Clinical Services in planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the operation of assigned areas (e.g., general administration, patient care, professional services and/or a combination of these and other services).

  • Contributes toward the overall development of programs and services to provide for the needs of members, physicians, and staff.

  • Assists VP, Ambulatory Care & Clinical Services in providing strategic leadership to management to ensure equitable distribution of resources and delivery of high quality, cost-effective health care and efficient management of staff in accordance with goals, objectives, policies, and applicable regulatory agency rules and regulations.

  • Responsible for daily operations by facilitating the development, implementation and monitoring of services, quality, and utilization standards.

  • Continually evaluating and improving the delivery of service by initiating and promoting best practice models. Engages physicians and staff in problem solving.

  • Plans, directs, staffs, organizes, and evaluates service and/or care delivered by staff. Develops, monitors, and controls payroll, non-payroll, and capital budgets and expenditures for assigned services areas.

  • Responsible for all aspects of total performance of staff including talent acquisition, employee training and development, performance assessments for assigned staff, disciplinary actions up to and including terminations.

  • Contributes to effective and accurate communications, operations, and planning through evidence-based findings and by participating in special committees and/or projects.

  • Directly and with subordinate managers, establishes and maintains operational and performance standards.

  • Monitors and evaluates the overall system of service delivery in terms of ability to meet established targets.

  • Assures compliance with administrative, legal, and regulatory requirements of the Health Plan Contract and government/accrediting agencies.

  • Works with management and physician partners to identify and establish programs and practices which are cost effective and provide quality service to members, staff, and physicians.

  • Participates in community relations activities to enhance the image and reputation of the organization in local customer service areas.

  • Represents the organization in activities involving leaders in business, government, labor, the community at large, Health Plan Members and health care providers in the area.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum seven (7) years relevant experience in healthcare operations leadership in either an acute care or complex ambulatory setting.

  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory/leadership experience.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in nursing, business administration, health care administration or related field required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • Possesses the skills to consistently elevate the over-arching vision, brand, and identity for Kaiser Permanente Nursing in partnership with the Senior VP of NPCS within the organization and in national and international nursing communities.

  • Experience in advancing professional practice through implementation of evidence-based, research informed, and value-added operational and clinical practices.

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required to participate in national meetings.

  • Significant knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations related to health care.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment. Behavioral Competencies:

  • Strong communication, presentation, leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills required.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience analyzing medical expenses, staffing models and utilization and the ability to analyze complex functions, procedures, and problems to find creative, logical and effective solutions.

  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects and workstreams and utilize time management and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in nursing, business, health care administration or related field preferred.
