University of Wyoming and Subdivisions Academic Advising Professional - School of Computing in Laramie, Wyoming

JOB TITLE:

Academic Advising Professional - School of Computing

JOB PURPOSE:

Located within The School of Computing, this position will coordinate and administer career and/or academic advising functions for University of Wyoming students.

This position will focus primarily on:

Advising - Proactively contribute to establishing School of Computing advising.  Provide academic advising to students; provide accurate information to students individually and/or in groups regarding general education and program requirements, appropriate class selection, and academic policies and procedures. Connect students with campus services and resources (i.e. counselors or tutors) and facilitate relationships between students and other campus individuals who can provide assistance. Provide career advising to students; help students align their educational pathway with their long-term goals, interests, abilities, and career plans; connect students with career services on campus. Maintain advising records and confidentiality; utilize campus advising systems to support delivery of advising information; review and approve of student forms, as directed; evaluate transcripts and perform checks, as directed. Serve on appropriate campus advising committees; participate in appropriate campus advising training activities; collaborate/communicate with other advising units on campus (e.g. ACES and other college/school advising units).

Events - Assist with the program activities including (but not limited to) outreach events (recruitment, new students, transfer students), Discovery Days, Resource Fairs, SoC Events.

Articulation - Meet with community college faculty, curriculum coordinators, high school counselors, Wyoming Community College Commission, and others as appropriate to develop and or maintain course and program articulation relationships. Assist in creating formal agreements for course equivalencies and program pathways between community colleges and UW.Update and maintain database of UW courses that include applied computing and can count for curriculum requirements in current and future School of Computing programs (e.g. COMP, GIST, and SDEV programs) based on student learning outcomes.Attend Wyoming Articulation Summit.

Assessment - Assist in all aspects of program assessment including planning, development of goals, learning outcomes, surveys and targets, engagement of stakeholders, data management and reporting, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff and administrators on assessment tasks. Lead in analyzing and reporting on data for course, teaching, and program effectiveness to be used for annual reporting and systematic HLC accreditation. Serve on appropriate campus assessment committees; participate in appropriate campus assessment training activities; collaborate/communicate with other assessment units on campus (e.g. ECTL, Academic Affairs).

Accreditation - Lead internal self-study, peer review/competitor market analysis, HLC standard reporting, and continuous improvement planning for annual review and scheduled UW HLC accreditation cycle. Serve on appropriate campus accreditation committees; participate in appropriate campus accreditation training activities; collaborate/communicate with other assessment units on campus (e.g. ECTL, HLC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide academic, personal, and/or career advising to students.

Some positions may assist with the assignment of faculty advisors; conduct advisement training seminars for faculty advisors.

Some positions advise undeclared, probationary, conditionally admitted, suspended, or reinstated students to help identify and overcome their academic difficulties; conduct follow-up sessions.

Some position identify and contact via telephone and on-site visits prospective employers or students for job recruitment/resume referrals of University of Wyoming students for permanent or intern/cooperative education positions; compile recruitment program information from employers and students.

Some positions meet with students experiencing career indecision; administer and interpret career advising-related assessments; provide an interview process to assist students in improving skills; conduct follow-up sessions.

Responsible for review and approval of student forms, as directed; evaluate transcripts and perform degree checks, as directed.

Assist with the program activities.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

Keep up to date on University and College policies and regulations pertaining to degree requirements.

Assist with special projects, as directed.

Serve on committees, as directed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Bachelor's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling, or Psychology-related program, or a related field

Experience:  1 year work-related experience

Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements:

Some positions may require a Wyoming State Counselor License

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior experience in Advising, Articulation, Assessment, and Accreditation
