Job Description

This position is responsible for establishing and coordinating the delivery of behavioral health training for law enforcement and other first responders. The position plans, evaluates delivery of a program, coordinates training sessions, workshops, and seminars, implements, and validates proper delivery of the program. These tasks affect program delivery to basic training and active-duty training across the state. This position assists other HRDs in support of basic academy and in-service education to ensure minimum training standards and professional best practices for law enforcement officers. These standards have statewide effect on both entry-level and active-duty law enforcement officers. This position conducts research, facilitates group work, writes formal validation reports, and suggests instructional strategies and training delivery methods based adult learning theory and outcome-based training. Additionally, the training coordinator position provides leadership and accountability for all levels of stakeholders associated with behavioral health training programs.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is a full-service policing agency with statewide jurisdiction, providing over 60 different services either directly to Michigan residents or in support of other law enforcement agencies. The MSP personnel most visible to the public are the uniform troopers whose primary responsibilities include traffic enforcement, crime prevention and investigation, and community engagement and service.

One year of professional experience in planning, developing, conducting, or evaluating staff development, training, or other programs equivalent to a Human Resources Developer.

Human Resource Developer P11

Two years of professional experience in planning, developing, conducting, or evaluating staff development, training, or other programs equivalent to a Human Resources Developer, including one year equivalent to a Human Resources Developer 10.

Alternate Education and Experience

Human Resources Developer 9

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.

Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.

Bonus Programs:Eligible employees with five years of service also receive annual longevity bonuses that grow as seniority increases. Some positions also may qualify for recruitment, retention, and performance bonuses or other special pay premiums.

Military Pay Differential:Employees in the guard or reserves may also qualify for supplemental pay benefits if miliary pay during qualifying duty is less than normal state pay.
