2023 Fall Co-Op / Internship - Construction Technician

PSI, an Intertek company, is searching for Future Co-Op / Internship - Construction Technicians to join our Building & Constructionteam in our Lansing, MI office. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry!

The Construction Intern role performs a variety of testing, project specific observations and site assessment duties under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures. Successful Co-op/Intern Candidates will be pursuing a Summer Internship/semester co-op who are in the process of completing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, Geology or closely related fields.

The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.

We believe a complete education package should include actual, verifiable, on-the-job training covering subjects that are directly related to engineering courses offered at universities. Our training program involves classroom, laboratory and field exposure to construction materials and processes. You will learn and practice ASTM testing procedures covering soils, foundations, concrete, asphalt masonry, mortar, and structural steel. Projects are only as good as the materials that go into them. Understanding how to determine the quality of materials is a valuable skill for anyone involved in engineering, architecture, or construction.

What you'll do: Field Testing of Concrete Compaction Testing of Engineered Fill Density Control of Hot Mix Asphalt Sampling and Testing Masonry Grout and Mortar Compression Testing of Concrete Specimens Laboratory Testing of Soils, aggregates and Hot Mix Asphalt

What it takes to be successful in this role: Current student in a Bachelor's Program in the Sciences, Mathematics, Construction Management, Engineering, or Geology fields at an accredited university Current student in a Bachelor's Program in the Construction Management, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology fields are highly preferred! No Experience Required - We Will Train! ACI Certifications a plus! Must have Basic Math, Calculator and Computer Skills Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication Must be able to read and understand work plans Must be able to work off shifts and overtime Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record (required)

Physical Requirements Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound. Ability to kneel and squat occasionally Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
