HVAC Service Manager Job Description

We are a general contractor located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. We are searching for a highly motivated, and qualified HVAC Service Manager to run the day-to-day operations of our HVAC Service Department. We have been awarded a multiyear contract to service over 2,000 locations for a Large National Telecommunications provider. The service location are in spread throughout 3 states in the Northeast Region. The successful candidate role

involves managing a team of HVAC technicians (in-house and subcontractors), dispatchers, and support staff to ensure timely and efficient service delivery. Daily, the HVAC service manager must assign and prioritize service calls, schedule appointments, and dispatch technicians to sites we must service. One of the most important factors in being successful in this role is to maintain our completion schedule, while providing a quality product.

Responsibilities :

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance, installation, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at the Customer locations. Most of these service locations will be the shelters located at the base of the cell towers. Although, a few of the sites will be located inside of commercial buildings. This senior-level role may also include:

  • Managing staff: Hiring, training, and evaluating the performance of HVAC technicians, installers, and dispatchers

  • Scheduling: Creating schedules for service work and appointments, and dispatching technicians

  • Resolving issues: Addressing customer complaints and providing technical support for complex installation problems

  • Ensuring compliance: Monitoring installations and repairs to ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and regulations

  • Developing budgets: Setting company goals and managing the budget

  • Communicating: Interacting with customers, vendors, suppliers, and other company managers

  • Ensures that all company/department policies are being followed by all HVAC technicians

  • Other tasks and responsibilities as required to maintain efficient department operations

  • Excellent customer service and sales skills

    Experience

  • At least 15 years of experience working in a HVAC service, or installation role, at least 5 years working in a managerial role with direct reports working at his direction

    Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred not required

  • HVAC Master of journey license preferred, not required

    Skills

  • Exhibit an in-depth knowledge and understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems

  • Has the ability to read, interpret, utilize, and train on manuals, schematics and control

circuits related to HVAC and refrigeration systems

  • Technical aptitude with knowledge of local codes and an ability to use resources at hand to find solutions

  • Excellent leadership skills to enhance team productivity and standards of work

  • Detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and

assignments • Good computer skills: knowledge of and proficiency in common office applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and general software navigation

  • Possess a strong personal desire for improvement; and the desire to motivate HVAC

technicians to be better tomorrow than they are today

  • Ability and willingness to work a non-standard schedule: nights, weekends and holidays as/if required

  • Ability to travel 5 days a quarter to meet the field techs
