What We’re Looking For

HUB International is growing, and we are looking for a dynamic Underwriter in our Auto Dealership segment working in a hybrid environment in our Langley - Willowbrook location. We are looking for someone that can work under limited direction and underwrites new and renewal business within designated authority levels. This is an ideal role for a for a strong technical underwriter with commercial underwriting production and renewal retention expertise. This role reports to the National Underwriting Manager - Dealership Program.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in P&C underwriting, with a focus on commercial lines and preferably in program and complex risks.

• Strong technical knowledge of P&C/Auto insurance products and services, with an ability to apply this knowledge in a creative and innovative manner.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients.

• Proven track record of achieving underwriting profitability and growth targets.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think strategically and translate insights into action.

• Ability to adapt to changing business priorities and to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

• Experience with underwriting systems and workflows, with a willingness to learn new technologies as needed.

• Experience with EPIC broker management and Policy Works systems is an asset.

A Day in the Life

• Evaluate risks and make underwriting decisions based on company guidelines, risk appetite, and pricing strategies.

• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients, providing exceptional customer service and delivering value-added solutions.

• Collaborate with other underwriters, brokers, and internal teams to drive profitable growth and increase market share.

• Manage the submission, quoting, and binding processes for new and renewal business, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.

• Negotiate policy terms and conditions with brokers and clients, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.

• Monitor and manage risk exposures, including the handling of claims and loss control recommendations.

• Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior underwriters and other staff members.

• Keep abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory developments to identify emerging risks and opportunities.

The expected salary range for this position is $65,000 - $90,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
