• Start Date: 2024-2025 School Year

• Length of Contract: 39 weeks

• Requirement s : Masters in Orientation & Mobility. Nationwide COMS certification is accepted

  Compensation:

  Pay Range = $42 / hr - $46 /hr (Travel Pay Available)

TheTeacher Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist provides students withappropriate learning experiences and activities designed to help them insocial, intellectual, and emotional growth. The Teacher Orientation andMobility enable students to develop competencies and skills to function in asuccessful and positive manner and teach students with visual impairments tosafely and independently navigate their environment.

Essential Duties andResponsibilities:

• Instructs students with visual impairments to be mobile in a proficient and safe manner in all environments

• Consults with teachers, parents, and school support staff to ensure that home and classroom environments are properly modified and/or adapted for Amergisization of independence in mobility

• Develops orientation and mobility plans to meet IEP goals

• Prepares lessons that accommodate learning styles

• Assists in the selection of instructional materials and equipment

• Evaluates student learning styles and use results to plan educational activities

• Conducts assessments of student progress and achievement using testing methodology

• Compiles reports, records, and documents as required

• Conducts conferences with parents, teachers, students, and other school district staff

• Follows School and Amergis District policies and procedures

• Trains support staff, parents and other personnel to incorporate orientation and mobility techniques into daily classroom routine

  Minimum Requirements:

• Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulations

• Minimum of one year experience in learning environment preferred

• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

• Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable

• Current CPR if applicable

• TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

• Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site

• Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements

• Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required

• Computer proficiency required

• Must be at least 18 years of age
