Lancaster General Health Health Information Analyst (40 hours/week) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

POSITION SUMMARY: The Health Information Analyst is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the corporate electronic health record through the effective and efficient management of patient demographic, encounter and clinical information. This includes, but may not be limited to, managing the Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), investigating, validating, and resolving patient accounts/encounters as it relates to the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

HOURS: 8am-4pm, On-Call, Holiday/Weekend Rotation

  • Serves as the health information expert in the management of the EHR, including analyzing and problem-solving issues with current and planned systems as it relates to the integration and management of the patient medical record.

  • Responsible for the management, research and maintenance of the EMPI including critical thinking, and evaluation as it relates to the integration and management of the patient medical record and patient identifying numbers. Decisions include merging, identifying non-duplicate records, and notifying system administrators for resolution to their ancillary systems.

  • Operates closely with privacy to decipher identity theft and privacy incidents through in-depth chart review. Delivers timely conclusions to all relevant departments.

  • Upholds current knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Department of Health (DOH) guidelines related to information management and documentation requirements. Serves as an internal resource by interpreting regulatory standards for medical record documentation review. Generates data reports, calculates compliance rates, and prepares statistical summaries for Accreditation and Regulatory Standards department.

  • Maintains patient portal accuracy of providers, care team, and demographics. Serves as liaison to the Contact Center and portal customers by overseeing proxy and consent validation and activation in adherence to the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA-DOH), Pennsylvania Minor Consent Act and Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines.

  • Primary support for Business Intelligence (BI) reconciling Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) through the Roster Management Engine (RME). Reconciliation promotes continuous improvement of the process to ensure accurate reporting on contracted populations to provide the best patient care as well as receive maximum reimbursement for the work associated with preventative care.

  • Multitasks from various sources to include; EHR work queues, job tickets, email requests, incoming calls and interfaces. Provides internal and external health information management advice and consultation on improving processes to streamline and reduce future patient account/encounter related issues.

  • Serves as a resource on existing system functionality. Participates in periodic integrated software upgrade testing of the EHR. Collaborates with E-Health on enhancemnts as the end user. Serves as a resource on existing system functionality.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Participates in the education and training of HIM-related new employees and students.

  • Assists with coordination and execution of health information projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management OR a Health Care Management-related program OR equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administration (RHIA) or eligible is preferred.

  • Achieve Epic Identity Proficiency within 12 months.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year experience working in a Health Information Management or related position

  • Use of a hospital information system such as Epic

  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Demonstrative critical thinking and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interface with individuals at all levels

  • Use of Microsoft PowerPoint
