Overview:

The Safety and Training Manager ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as ensuring compliance with company safety requirements. Responsible for continuous leadership, recruitment, and training of operator candidates. Promotes strong leadership and influences positive employee morale throughout the location. This position salary range is $75,000-85,000. (DOE)

Responsibilities:

  • Provides behind-the-wheel instruction according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects of vehicle operation and passenger transportation, including defensive driving, service area familiarization, passenger loading, unloading and securement.

  • Conducts classroom training in accordance with corporate and location requirements.

  • Ensure all safety manuals, programs, policies, and procedures are current and meet the needs of the location.

  • Document all training activities and ensure accurate completion of all training-related employee records.

  • Establish a relationship with client and corporate personnel to identify additional training needs, resources, and opportunities.

  • Prepares and conducts monthly safety meetings.

  • Maintains an adequate and complete employee filing system and participates in audits and inspections to meet client and corporate expectations.

  • Directs the location drug & alcohol program to include random drug testing and ensures all files are updated to pass regular audits.

  • Manages the injury prevention program to reduce the number of workplace injuries.

  • Conducts accident investigation using root-cause analysis and assigns employee re-training as required.

  • Responsible for maintaining/posting OSHA log.

  • Conducts road observations to evaluate operator safety, customer service, and systematic knowledge of the service.

  • Provides coaching and re-training as required on SmartDrive.

  • Respond to customer comments related to the service.

  • Be on call and work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.

  • Responsible for CHP audits

  • Administer discipline and/or coaching when applicable.

  • Attend Client required meetings.

  • Responsible for Drug and Alcohol program compliance, i.e. random list, post-accident, etc.

  • Analyze KPI trends.

  • Post-collision and incident investigations and assess possible root causes.

  • Initiate and manage safety campaigns aimed to provoke workplace safety to reduce severity and frequency of collisions and incidents.

  • Implement safety policies and procedures.

  • Participate in Client Safety Steering Committee meetings.

  • Responsible for ensuring proper and reasonable actions are taken to prevent and mitigate the spread of communicable disease within and related to the operation.

  • Conduct training on de-escalation of interpersonal incidents with the objective or reducing and eliminating assaults on transit worker.

  • Conduct training on safety concerns identification and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of recent experience managing a Paratransit Safety and Training Program or similar position.

  • Ability to develop and implement a safety and training department.

  • Knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations regarding safety and environmental issues

  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

  • Good verbal, written, and relational communication skills, with the ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels, including drivers, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials, and the public.

  • Subject to DOT drug testing. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.

  • Poses a TSI Transit Bus System Safety certificate required by the Client, not more than 10 years old.
