Responsibilities We are seeking a passionate and hands-on Senior Data Engineer to create innovative data solutions to deliver insights that help our business achieve their goals. You will have the responsibility for understanding business data requirements, designing, developing, and testing technical data ingestion and transformation solutions to meet business needs. You’ll be an empowered member of the data engineering team to build data pipelines to enable exploration and broader access for analytics, visualization, and machine learning across the company. Your strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and your ability to communicate both verbally and in writing effectively, will help the company leverage data as a competitive advantage. Major Job Activities and Duties Collaborate with the project team to perform functional and non-functional requirement analysis of the data projects. Apply rapid prototyping and iterative development methodologies as appropriate to ensure solution keeps pace with business needs. Integrate diverse data sources, including real-time, streaming, batch, and API-based data, to enrich platform insights and drive data-driven decision-making. Understand dependencies and timing issues between source systems and data warehouse operations and optimize the ingestion to the data warehouse or extraction to other applications. Define what the health of the data ecosystem should be based on the Data Governance Strategy; ensure complete monitoring of the system, defining alerts on critical failure points and improving data quality by working with data owners and business partners. Research, evaluate and recommend alternative approaches. Perform technical leadership towards design and development of efficient, effective, scalable, and sustainable solutions for challenging problems, ranging from small to large work efforts and low to high complexity problems. Understand, use, and adhere to standard dimensional modeling techniques for data warehouse design. Develop in and help refine a modern data stack leveraging a Cloud data warehouse (Snowflake), a mixture of mixed on-premises, SaaS and fully external data sources, Cloud-based integration, and transformation tools (including Fivetran, dbt and Snowpark/Python) and a data catalog (Data.World). Develop, enforce and comply with best practices, the team’s documentation, coding, testing and delivery standards and processes and always drive for continuous improvement. Plan, conduct and/or direct comprehensive unit and integration tests, and contribute to increasing automation of test activities. Drive User Acceptance Testing activities with business and IT partners to ensure solutions meet business requirements. Contribute to ongoing migration of the existing on-premise data warehouse to the new Cloud architecture, ensuring co-existence and support of items running in both old and new environments. Alongside Manager, Data Architect, and fellow Senior Data Engineers, contribute to definition and development of the long term strategy for Data Warehousing, Data Lake, Data Science & ML, and Data Fabric. Support data warehouse operations in a rotating on-call schedule. Upon notification of a problem during off hours, stay with that problem to resolution unless the problem has been handed off to another support person who agrees to take responsibility for said problem. Other job duties as required. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data & Analytics or a related field. Experience: 5+ years practical experience working on data warehouse projects using dimensional modeling. 5+ years practical experience with writing complex SQL queries in any major database platform (Oracle, Snowflake, Teradata, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.), with demonstrated understanding of SQL optimization and performance tuning. 5+ years practical experience across full Software Development Life Cycle with any ETL/ELT tool implementing complex transformation business rules. 1+ year of experience implementing and supporting data warehousing on any Cloud platform. Strong technical capabilities with respect to SQL, dbt code and data for troubleshooting, improvements, and enhancements. Demonstrated ability in collecting and documenting requirements. Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written. Ability to lead and execute on projects and drive for results. Excellent problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills. Preferred Skills: Data Warehouse experience in a manufacturing and/or consumer products company. Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran and/or IBM DataStage. Experience with modernizing DW and Integration Platform on Cloud for digital transformation. Experience with Data Science, Machine Learning and/or Generative AI. Experience with Python and DataFrames in the Snowpark environment. Understanding of Agile methodology and DevOps/DataOps practices. Experience handling structured and unstructured datasets. Willingness to learn and roll up your sleeves, and contribute in a collaborative, hybrid team environment including both local and remote workers.
