RESOURCE PLANNER I (Hybrid, La Crosse, WI)

Hiring Salary Range: $60,156 - $90,234

Compensation is determined by a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, and certifications. The actual offer may vary, reflecting the candidate's unique blend of experience, educational background, and skill level.

The Resource Planner works as a member of Dairyland Power Cooperative’s (DPC’s) Corporate Strategy Planning & Analysis Division in the development of corporate power supply plans, strategic plan assessments and integrated plans through use of planning and risk models. Assist in special studies which will improve utility operation and profitability and satisfy state and federal requirements for renewable energy development, power supply adequacy and energy efficiency. Assists in the regulatory reporting requirements.

The Impact You'll Make In This Role:

  1. Utilize planning software, (power production model, capacity expansion model, etc.); assists in the preparation of resource plans; assists in screening, sensitivity and risk analysis. Activity will involve interaction with demand and supply side planning models, integrated planning and decision tree analysis.

  2. Assist in identifying opportunities for DPC to reduce cost and increase revenue in planning horizon; provide assessments and reports on the same.

  3. Work cross functionally with other departments in conducting generation mix studies, assisting with determination of marginal demand and energy cost and transmission analysis, etc.

  4. Assist in the preparation of integrated resource plans using internal and/or external studies. Develop reports for executive management, DPC Board of Directors, and state and federal agencies.

  5. Participate on various internal and external planning task forces as needed to enhance planning efforts and provide analysis for various task force inquiries.

  6. Support the development of competitive assessments for new resources, through collection of customer, generation, and other related data to assist in preparation for presentations.

  7. Assist in the development of DPC’s annual budget and financial forecast through modeling various scenarios, performing studies, gathering generation data, etc.

  8. Perform special studies investigating alternatives that will improve system performance, efficiency and reliability to reduce production costs.

  9. Assist in regulatory filing (e.g., Minnesota Optional Integrated Resource Plan, Conservation Improvement Plan, M-RETS data), DOE filings, risk assessments, and resource management.

  10. Monitor regional power market pricing trends for changes that could affect DPC in the future.

  11. Assist in maintaining MISO load and capability reporting.

  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Nature and Extent of Financial Responsibility: Responsibility includes assisting in detailed analysis and preparation of reports upon which recommendations and decisions will be made regarding future construction, purchases and resource plans. Help identify and attempt to quantify the risks and potential regrets of resource decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience: BA/BS in Engineering (power option preferred), Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Business. Academic work in energy, environmental and economic area helpful. Industry related experience preferred.

Skills: Candidate must demonstrate ability to think strategically and tactically. Must possess proficient communications skills for verbal and written interaction with people having varied backgrounds, along with strong presentation skills. Must have proficiency using Microsoft Office. Mathematical skills required. Computer proficiency required. Knowledge of project management principles and statistical analysis helpful.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License

Environmental Demands: Normal work schedule is indoors.

Other Job Characteristics: Travel required, occasionally overnight. Works with limited supervision in a variably paced, variable pressure setting. Handles multiple priorities.
