Actalent Mechanical Engineer in La Crosse, Wisconsin

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a long term project team with our customer, an industry leader in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in HVAC system design, including refrigeration, heat transfer, and airflow. This role will be responsible for all aspects of equipment design and component integration for Packaged and Modular Industrial Chiller product lines. This includes ASME calculations, designing chiller systems, modeling system performance, innovating new technology for future products, and validating ideas and system performance in the laboratory.

Responsibilities:

ASME Codes: Understand and apply ASME BPVC Section 8 pressure vessel codes, design Industrial Chiller product systems that meet application requirements and ensure compliance.

Calculations: Perform ASME BPVC Section 8 calculations as needed using Compress.

Thermal Design: Perform thermal design tasks including CAE analysis.

Chiller Performance Modeling: Apply engineering knowledge to simulate and predict unit performance.

Design FMEAs: Conduct design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) and develop and execute resulting risk mitigation plans.

Support Lab Validation: Develop test plans, conduct and support lab testing, perform data analysis, and review to identify discrepancies or anomalies in test results. Collaborate with Modeling Engineers to calibrate performance models, troubleshoot technical issues, and communicate updates and insights to the Engineering team.

System Performance, Reliability, and Quality: Ensure the performance, reliability, and quality of chiller systems.

CAD Software: Leverage Creo CAD software for design tasks.

GD&T: Utilize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge for accurate prints and overarching tolerance stacking.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Ensure compliance with ASME BPVC Section 8 pressure vessel codes.

  • Perform calculations using Compress.

  • Engage in thermal design tasks.

  • Utilize Creo CAD software for design and modeling.

  • Apply GD&T knowledge for accurate drawings and tolerance stacking.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (BSME preferred).
