The hygienist is also expected to ensure the support, safety and comfort of the patient. Major Responsibilities: 1. Works with patient and family to educate them with the proper hygiene techniques for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. 2. Counsels patients about plaque control, developing individualized at-home oral hygiene programs and the importance of nutrition for maintaining optimal health. 3. Works with patients to provide dental prophylaxis procedures including scaling, root planning, polishing, fluoride application and sealant for maintaining oral health. 4. Evaluates and records the patients health history, dental charting, oral analysis, including taking and recording blood pressure. 5. Exposes, processes and interprets dental x-rays. 6. Responsible for achieving and maintaining proficiency in the Dental Specialties competency assessment checklist. 7. Perform recall appointments according to dentists\' prescribed treatment plan. 8. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance. 9. Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients. 10. Ensures patient safety. 11. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Learning: REQUIRED Associate degree in Dental Hygiene Work Experience: REQUIRED 1 year dental hygiene experience in a dental office setting.
