Associate Technical Engineer I or II

Hiring Wage Range: $31.39 - $47.00 per hour

Compensation is determined by a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, and certifications. The actual offer may vary, reflecting the candidate's unique blend of experience, educational background, and skill level

The Associate Technical Engineer work with the Telecommunications Department to research, design, safely implement, administer, and find design solutions for telecommunications systems for Dairyland, member cooperatives and other entities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  1. Work in a team environment to research, design, and install telecommunications systems for Dairyland, its member cooperatives, municipals, and other entities that Dairyland interconnects with.

  2. Research and design of transport/network upgrades and legacy equipment replacements.

  3. System Management and Administration of Mobile Radio System.

  4. Design and coordination of substation SCADA/EMS equipment upgrades and installations.

  5. Work with Electrical Engineering to design and coordinate the installation of power line carrier systems and other electronic controls associated with protective relaying equipment.

  6. Work with the Telecommunications Technicians when implementing new equipment, including resolving installation and maintenance issues.

  7. Responsible for vendor bid evaluations and oversee implementation of vendor work.

  8. Ordering and checking equipment used to complete communications and SCADA systems in the field.

  9. Administration, implementation and monitoring of Dairyland telecommunications communication networks and the Dairyland SCADA system, as well as the Network Management System.

  10. Tracking project work in a project management systems.

  11. Keep current with new technology and evaluate relevance to Dairyland’s needs.

  12. Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education & Experience:

Associate Technical Engineer II : Associate Degree with courses in electronics, computers, or telecommunications plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience in utility telecommunications and SCADA, with extensive experience in substation communications system design.

Associate Technical Engineer I: Associate Degree with courses in electronics, computers, or telecommunications.

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of FCC and FAA rules and regulations.

  • Ability to read and comprehend complex written documents, including schematics.

  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Computer aided drafting experience

  • Project management skills including budgets and timelines.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver’s License. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license preferred.

Environmental Demands: Works primarily indoors (office, substation and communication facilities). Must be able to access remote areas and in uneven terrain while carrying equipment. May work around electrical hazards, with some radio frequency radiation exposure.
